Quote:I'm new to posting and couldn't figure out how to start my own thread. Just so you know I excelled in math and science but did poorly with writing in college. So with that being said sorry about many mistakes that most will come across with my punctuations and such with my grammar. But since some of this will cover cheating and the existing thread was fairly empty I figured it was a good place to post. First off this cheating with making copies has had a friendly name of "duping" given to it. Some even go as far as to compare it to when Jesus duped the bread for his fellow hungry men. As far as I know Jesus didn't fatten his wallet in the process like most of the cheaters did. All this counterfeiting does is hurt the average honest player and game lover in a few ways.
1st- The cost of sought after items in the game like Otto boxes, and rare worn item have gone up in plat. A lot of that happen when these so called dupers (in the name of Jesus- lol) come out with WTB Otto box and name your price. Well now the price of those have about doubled along with the rare worn items since the big out break of the innocent duping era. Now the market is flooded with a lot of ingredients near worthless that we use to count on to make money. So for the average honest player its 3 times harder to get these rare items and Otto boxes.
2nd- If everyone has what they need from the quests/raids who will run them. It's just like if everyone suddenly got rich from counterfeiting in real life who would do the building, manufacturing, or any jobs. I guess it would be left to the honest to do the work. I know a few dupers now that barely do certain raids since then and I'm sure its mostly due to they don't need anything from them anymore. Now that took away from the lfm's naturally which will cause a decline in game popularity for a couple reasons. Most getting tired of waiting to fill. So any new comers will think this game is lame since you can't even get enough to fill and play. It also just floors me on how many put so many hours into trying cheat the system searching for that exploit. Reminds of my kids when I would have to fight with them to clean their room for hours when the whole mess could of been taking care of in 10 - 15 minutes. They realize today how silly they were now that they're adults. So instead of complaining about how they spend time fixing exploits more than fixing or creating new stuff, complain to the ones seeking out these exploits and spreading the poison across the game. It hurts more than helps our game we love so much.
(Like I said not all about cheating)....Speaking of new players, I think that bravery bonus was one of the worst things to add to a game of this size. Cause to many start to act as elitist and tend to be not so friendly to new comers. Some have BB#'s in the hundreds and even thousands I hear. To me that number just represents how many times you more than likely been unwelcoming to a new player while doing quests/raids. Now I'm not saying all are like this but a lot have become this way. These skilled players could really be a benefit in strengthen our Ddo community by once in awhile seeking out a new player and taking them under their wing.
I remember back in the day I would play these various games on gaming consoles with my buddy. We would take turns walking in game and mapping with the graph paper while taking notes. We never thought about making copies of it and dropping it off the game venders. But if had these pre notes made ourselves I imagine there would've been a lot less time spent playing the game. Cause naturally all the guess work and figuring it out wouldn't have been needed. Now with that being said I also wiki and you tube is another slow killer of games. Takes all the guess work and the time it should normally take with a team to figure things out. Its funny I played some new content with a toon who had probably 12+ past lives of heroic and epic whine the whole time because it was taking to long to figure it out. Frustrated cause no info was available online yet about this new content. They fussed almost the whole time and towards the end said "man I should've had completed 3 of these by now if we knew what we were doing". It's that attitude along with the constant relying/or use of wiki. It gets worse with the elitist they watch a 5-10 min you tube video and now they're soloing it which also is a killer of games such as this one. Less and less lfms means less new players which means less money for ddo which means less ddo employees which means less new content which means less interest and so on and so forth till the plug is pulled.
Speaking of ddo money since game has been down I come across some readings. One said that at one point they employed 400 people. That's a lot really and if you figure the average made just 12/hr average that's 4800/hr. 192,000/wk. 768,000/mo almost 10,000,000 million/yr. no if all do the 15/mo it would take over 660,000 paying accounts to just pay wages. The employer also has to pay social security, other taxes on its employees. You have property tax, building maintenance, electric bill, water, heating and cooling, equipment maintenance, and your typical building maintenance like lawn care, replacing bulbs well own a home and work for a living you can imagine it can be costly to own and run a business. FYI my mom use to own her own for a while that I helped with. Now they make up with some money with the ddo store but we all pretty much know that there isn't that many paying accounts. Especially since I hear a lot say they pride them selves on playing for free. So when you see them trying to make some cash on the game don't get so upset it takes money to keep this whole game up and running with new content being added on occasion. I know they had a layoff but with the numbers and such I presented I don't think there's as much greed as one might assume happening there. I could be wrong but I doubt it. I know our family business had a hard time running on just hopes and dreams. Just like these free accounts they're simply hope and dream that they become vip.
With all the duping and alt account created you have to believe it has some negative effect on the gaming world. I know my gaming system runs best with the least amount of **** on it. For example I use to have all kinds of stuff downloaded and saved to my hard drive. I noticed when I did that my computer would always run a little slower. Well I later found out like many probably already know its causes your system to be slower/laggy because the more information on your hard drive the harder the system has to work and the longer it takes to find what your looking for. And so many have dozens of accounts and some even brag about it. One guy in the forums went as far as to say he's got almost 500 accounts. Now that's ridiculous if he's telling the truth. But **** like that takes up space and slows the system.
Well im getting tired, and I really hope no one takes this as a *&%$^ fest. It really is out of love for the game and our community. so lets all do our part and help keep it strong.
