Someone said in the mother forums there was no excuse for using niggardly as online we have time to think about what we are going to type and can use something else. Well that sort of had a point, but also it can go the other way, the people who where offended had the chance to look up what the word meant and to see if there was any ill intent.

Another point is, yes the majority of the posters are from the U.S but a large portion are not. For some people that is not an offensive word to use, they would of been surprised at the reaction. Niggard, niggardly is not used here as much as it use to be, but iv'e heard it from time to time, but most of the time from older people.

One word that is used a lot is niggle, now im honestly asking this but would this be an offensive word to use to the people in the U.S?

Niggle is something much more likely to slip off my tongue instead of niggardly  especially if it was a game situation. Example a few players are having  a bit of push and shove and I say, "Ok boys that's enough niggle". How would that be taken?

Ask yourself, next time you play ball with dudes who've more or less been hitting something during the day, how interested you think they are in a language lesson from you Socrates?  Yes, if you're one of the tribe, adopted or otherwise, you can get away with saying just about whatever you want.  Not that you'd ever use the word niggardly in those circumstances when there's at least a thousand more effective ways to communicate the same sentiment, and "N pass me the ball" is more to the point.  Better believe you're going to start out as a fresh-faced cracker and judging from your social stupidity bred by privileged circumstances, next stop will be dead cracker.

Some of you should really get out more and visit the real world. 

You want to satiate everyone so you can exercise your penchant for loving the term "niggardly" wherever you please, give the poor government sponsored air conditioning and a bangbros membership.

While I do not disagree with the meaning of the niggardly, I think the OP of the forum thread missed the number one rule of communication:  "Know Your Audience"

Even in the US there are regional differences with language.  Posting on the internet reaches a broad spectrum of people of different cultural and educational backgrounds.  When I read the posts by the OP I got the sense they used "niggardly" with the intention of raising an emotional reaction, and the problem with raising emotional reactions in communication is that you cannot control the emotional fallout.

In this case all sides failed and were in the "wrong" as it concerns good communication.  But given the nature of so much on the internet it appears good communication is not the goal.  This is sad since the original idea that founded the internet was intended to allow collaboration of ideas over a broader group of peers.

Certainly every time I post something on the internets I first consider how stupid Americans would feel about my words.
