Why grind?

It takes a long time to get through the game.  20 runs of shroud for that yellow dopant?  All those quests to flag for CiTw.  The number of times you have to run Von to get the scrolls, shards, and seals that you need.  The number of runs through crystal cove.  All the wilderness areas to run through.  The guild levels to gain.  And on and on.  Why grind?  Why do I play this game?  Why do I keep grinding?  For better gear?  For upgrading gear?  For a little more attack damage?  Why?

On another note, can someone please teach me how to properly build an epic capable character?  My characters feel so gimp to me.  (I'll say it before someone else says it here.  No amount of ingredients, collectibles, augments, or gear can make me less gimp.  It's about game knowledge.  Yes, how to properly build a character.  How to use the abilities, actives, and how to use the features.)

Well, I do not grind. I think it is possible to beat EE without top notch gear.

Reasonable good gear is enough.

The grind is the key to keep you playing MMORPGs. Wink

And about citw... don't do the quest because you want to flag for citw, because you don't want to run the raid anyways, unless really need one of the weapons from there. The raid is just plain boring and tiring, at least after doing it a few times and it's not new anymore.

I often got the feeling mid raid, that I am falling asleep infront of the computer, even if it's not really late already. That does't happen often in other raids for me and happend in 90% of my last citw runs. Thank god Turbine gave all my toons 2 raiders reward boxes. Cheesy

Apart from that, 18sorc/2pally seems a good build to start if you are new and want a viable endgame build. Much easier to get the saves high enough to matter and you can decide if you want to go shiradi or standard sorc nuker.

All my main toon are first lifers and casters, with the exception of one. It depends what you want to do. Personally multi trs are about as appealing as a pint of warm puke so I don't do EEs in general, although all my first lifers run fine in them. Stop stressing and have fun Tongue

I can't stand first lifers......I get the gear on my multilife toons for a reason :>

Also third lifers are really easy especially when you go iconic and only have to farm 15-20

DDO is grindy? That's always a funny one.

I've played MMOs where it could take years to legitly cap a character  Undecided

DDO's grind is a joke compared to those.

Depends on what you want to play. Look at some videos first. The fastest speed time thread is great place to see the runs for the type of character you want to play. See what they are using, boosting, clicking, etc. where and how they move. Try that on lower difficulties until youre used to it. Gearing out is important. a lot of pieces to the puzzle, may miss options on gear without realizing it. Search some threads for your type of character and compare stats, breakdowns for them, gear slots, enhancements, feats, spells.

A good player can make anything work, I would suggest Sestra's monkcher or Jakelala's Meteor Shower. Dont be intimidated by the name, he just likes gay names is all.

I recommend monk. You can tank, steal aggro from everyone and tank whether the tank likes it or not, kill trash, nap, pike, and even self heal to the point having a healer in the group is meaningless.

Yes, monks are the way to go.

quivering palm was nerfed, but still works a bit

stun works well

monk is easy

get stun +10 handwraps (antipode, or the other ones from unquiet graves?), dupe eveningstar challenge ings for the +6 stun cloak, dupe shadow scales for +1 stun outfit

You sound like me four years ago. That was before they added even more ways to grind the game over and over.

Believe it or not, DDO once called itself the no-grind MMO. While it was mostly untrue, it was at least a step in the right direction (grind-lite). They have completely and utterly lost sight of that.

The really sad thing is, they bucked conventional wisdom on the subscription only model and it pulled the game back from the brink, why are they so hung up on the "grind is necessary" conventional wisdom now?

Did they used to have leaders with vision and they all left? Did they pare down their talent pool to the point that they can't produce content worth playing for its own merits?

Turdbin, keep changing the DDO rules, because McDonalds sold over 200 billion hamburgers by changing the recipe for their Special Sauce every couple of months to keep interest up.

Oh  I'm sorry you find the epic levels hard and need a call out for them.....

I was under the impression that epic leveling was so easy it didn't deserve a mention, but I guess I'm so stupid and it needs to be mentioned for its difficulty.

On a serious note: you retard I know how iconics work. Epic xp is the same life and it is fucking easy every life. It does not deserve a mention unless you are too retarded to breathe.

the most difficult part about tring is not falling asleep from boredom in the low levels.
