English phone support hours reduced again

Yeah, hearing that Turbine reduced support hours reminds me of the joke about the guy with a dog with no legs - "What do you call him?" "It doesn't matter, he doesn't come anyway".
  

Turdbin, keep changing the DDO rules, because McDonalds sold over 200 billion hamburgers by changing the recipe for their Special Sauce every couple of months to keep interest up.

Semi-serious question... why don't they have volunteer GMs?  If you keep track of feedback, tickets closed, etc., it wouldn't be *that* hard to determine who's not a total douchebag, right?  Right?   Sad

They would need to develop a whole set of tools to track what the GM do, because with volunteers you'll always get the one that will just use his powers to spawn every loot in game for his friends. If I'm paid as an employee doing so would get me fired, as a volunteer at worst I only risk a ban on my known accounts and the known accounts of my friends... If we launder things the right way we will have a accounts stuffed to the head with stuff that will escape notice...

I myself have not used the phone support even once in the 4 years that I played ddo so I wonder: How often is there a real need of calling because it cannot be solved via ingame ticket, yet has to be solved the very same day/hour? And no, whining into the telephone because one is too dumb to dupe without getting caught is not a valid argument.

Phone support is helpful sometimes.
You can get to speak to real thinking person, which is handy when the automated tools fruck up.

Like Pook, there was a sale in its last day and neither credit card or PayPal were working.
I called up and they gladly took my money - amazing hey?   Grin

I think taking it away from weekends is not such a big deal.  Yes, it will affect some people, but in the scheme of things, they would pay people a premium to work weekends and graveyard shifts.

It does send an unintended message though...

I love how they try to upsell it.  Fracking marketing droids. Their starting assumption is that we're as gullible and stupid as they are.

This.  It does sound like a great idea off the bat, but it only takes one bad egg and you have your self a real mess.    You could mitigate some of the in game problems by making them GM for servers where they have no interests/bias.
But it also means those volunteers need to have access to the internal control and communications systems (which for Turbine is probably only an A5 doodle pad).  So a disgruntled volunteer could leak some damaging intel on how they triage, where weaknesses are in the system etc.

As Flav said, the GM could stay completely clean, but feed intel to friends and guildies.  There could be peer pressure from guildies who knew you were a GM.

Someone at Turdbine has to spend time reviewing the logs and overseeing the volunteers.  In the end, probably not worth the risk and effort.

I didn't want to mention all the other possibilities once you went down the slope of helping friends...

And really pulling a Stainer on somebody would be too noticeable for you to do it for long.
Fee Loot, XP, Quest Completions with GM help... now that could be done in ways that it would be kept under cover and not noticed by the GM supervisor. But pulling a Stainer, no way.

There was a GM on the Euro servers that did some odd stuff, e.g. spawned Titans in house P and assisted players in ways he was not supposed to. I suppose Codemasters didn't consider him being a professional, and he was sacked after just some weeks.
