For the fans of the genre, Wasteland 2 is out.
I hope I can find the time to try it.

Quote:
Wasteland 2 is a post-apocalyptic role-playing video game by inXile Entertainment for Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux. It is the first official sequel to the 1988 video game Wasteland (though 1990's Fountain of Dreams, the cancelled Meantime, and the original Fallout from 1997 were considered spiritual successors). The game was successfully crowd funded through Kickstarter, part of a trend of high-profile developers launching projects on the site. After the postponement of the original release date from October 2013, it was released on September 19, 2014.

It reminds me A LOT of Fallout Tactics, but with more impactful skills and way deeper background/quests. The very first level after tutorial forces you to choose between 2 emergencies, and doing 1 will stop the other from happening (you arrive to the scorched earth), I hope there are same things in the future to increase replayability.

Most skills are needed, limited crafting (well, salvaging and upgrading weapons a-la Fallout 3/NV, but more basic) present, the plot is pretty straightforward but fully fitting the setting. Ammo is scarce in the missions and water/radiation is an issue on the outer map. It also has that very Falloutish vibe that's been missing for years.

Graphics are kinda bad. Especially models; it's a shame, even Divinity:OS had much better models. Fuck, Crusader: No Remorse had more stylish models.

TL;DR: if you want more Fallout 1/2/Tactics gameplay with deeper interactivity and real quests, certainly try it out.

Yep. This is one of the first things I noticed too. It's really a shame.

Kicked in for their kickstarter $100 (partly on account of I stole the original game in the 80s).

Avoided the beta as I wanted to experience it fresh on drop day.  Enjoying it so far.  A lot of graphic details could be better, but I imagine they'll open it to modding and that quality will rise over time.

Only annoying thing I've noticed is trying to start a combat operation using a demolition doesn't seem to record damage against the mobs.  Hopefully they'll fix that, cause there's nothing quite like tossing a pipe bomb to get attention.   Grin
