Now b2p - anyone playing this?

They seem to have improved it a great deal since launch (when I played for all of two weeks), far more active combat but still very limited in options.

I'm thinking of buying it. Main concern is if it's even worth it due to mass duping.

I do like running around as a sorcerer with heavy armour swinging a maul

Does also seem like a multi-person single player game

the mass duping was very early in its lifetime, a lot of those items were removed and accounts banned, also new items have taken their place. its also very hard to notice because of the way guild stores are handled and there being no central auction house.

the thing people whine about the most (no central AH) is actually the biggest contributor to keeping money relevant. that and loot drops are not worth more as you level, meaning completing a quest and selling nets you the same money at level 10 as it does at vet 14.

it has its flaws, but its still one of the best MMO's out there.

probably never because they will keep console prices and PC prices the same, and console games never sell for free.

May look into it eventually.  Still playing State of Decay.  The Breakdown DLC is the closest thing I've found in another game to DDO's TR system.

Its definitely improved since launch. I played for 3 months and left because of broken quests for the most part. Back now since it went b2p and I like the champion system and the daily pledges they added. The new dungeons are also pretty fun.

It's a prettier game than DDO. And combat is almost as interactive. I don't find ESO's mobility to be quite as good, but I guess you can roll out of CC and attacks, and blocking actually counts for something, so there's that.

And the number of skills you have on your skill bar is a pathetic 6. You can switch between bars, given you 12, but then all the buffs you have to maintain go away unless they are on the second bar, too. That part of the game sucks. And so does the grouping tool - it's extremely primitive by DDO's standards.

And the quests and dungeons get pretty repetitive. The pvp is stunning to look at, but dominated by hard core gamers obviously.

Otherwise pretty fun.

Got into it the first 2 weeks when it came out and popped smoke.

Tried getting into it again a few months ago, the combat is nice and flowy and shit like Elder Scrolls V and whatever, but grouping does fucking suck...and shit does get repetitive.

I get more out of GECK'ing Fallout NV or modding Skyrim.

I couldn't get past the repetitive questing even with a ton of "different" quests.  It felt like what you'd imagine running level 1-3 quests in DDO over and over and over.....  Except not as much diversity in quests or character builds.

I thought the game had no quests hubs...you had to explore to find them and that they all had story to them..wasn't kill 10 rats or collect 10 ears type thing?

Anyone still playing this?  Wondering if it's worth picking up at 66% off with another 20% via coupon.

GMG has a sale going on

imperial edition is like 27.19 on sale plus you can get another 20% via gmg coupon ENCORE-ENCORE-ENCORE  which bring it down to
21.76$

You can get the standard edition on sale too

You know, I enjoyed it for the first 50 levels.

RE: Quests

Some of the quests have story behind them. Obviously the main storyline does Smiley

So the story varies, but the structure of the quests is repetitive and dull. For example, you might meet some girl just outside a cave who says "my brother is dying in that cave! Waaaah! Can you save him oh great and noble adventurer?" And so you do, and enter the cave, which is cave type no.12, so it's an exact replica of all other cave no.12s.  I think there's 40 or 42 different dungeons/caves so it takes a bit to start recognizing that you're running the same stuff over and over again with slightly different story-flavor.

Of course in DDO we just repeat the same shit over and over again anyways, so what's the difference? Well, you only have 6 actions on your hotbar + another swap bar (so 12 you can use relatively quickly). They designed it with consoles in mind, hence the limitations. Yes, it's interesting to mix and match abilities until you find a rotation that works for you - but that gets boring awful quick. In DDO I have something like 40 keybinds so that I can deal with pretty much any situation and it's awesome when you're in the zone and using all your different abilities just right. I've never had that experience in ESO - just push this button, then that one, drink a pot, push this one again, etc.

And the mobs tend to feel repetitive after a while. Some are interesting - they have different attacks you must learn to predict, then counter - but otherwise, meh. And I hate the tells - the red light zone where you take damage is totally immersion breaking for me. It's like you're in grades school "ok, ok, see that red? Yes, that's where the bad guy hurts you."

So the limited usable abilities, the repetitive dungeons and mobs just can't capture my attention so well.

Hubs:

There are little quest hubs all over that are connected by a storyline. So it lets you explore to find them, then carry them on as you would. You can even turn the arrows off that tell you where to go if you wanted to explore on your own - that would make it more fun, but I'd soon forget who I was supposed to meet (despite there being a quest log).

Good stuff:

The visuals are amazing, characters are pretty. Playing this, then going back to DDO makes DDO look like it was built out of polygons (why do we have square stones? And straight-edge cliffs?). Some of the boss fights are great, with tons of stuff happening - anchors are fun.

It's open world, so lots to explore - if only they had a world that grew and changed, one that you could alter, this would have been a much bigger hit. I guess some of the quests permanently change the landscape for your character. Like you save a town as it's being attacked and after you drive off the attackers, you're basically cheered by all the townspeople. And then they talk about you as you walk by - that's neat.

It's probably worth it for 20 bucks.

Oh, the PVP is ridiculously stunning but unless you're a power gamer, you'll die in 20 seconds.

Cool thanks for the rundown, was looking at this to mostly just run around explore some and do the main storylines and any side quests that are interesting.  From what you've said looks like it's worth the 20 bucks for me even if I stop playing once I hit 50 or so.

You know what I like best about it? You can join 5 guilds.

That gives you a lot of options. Hey, when you do join guilds, go to the roster and check the no. of active players - that will tell you if the guild is dead or alive. It's not worth your time being in a dead guild unless you have access to their banks. Smiley
