This is technically not about a game in particular but whatever.

A friend sent me this demo video of the new Final Fantasy game running with the upcoming DirectX 12 and holy fucking graphics. Check it out.

hehe, that rig running the game costs more then some new cars. This is pretty far in the future...so far in fact, that the game will be long outdated before technology catches up.

Really? That only looked like a $20k rig to me. Maybe it's cause NZ is remote as fuck, but I'd be hard pressed to find a new car in that price range.

Doesn't everyone drive a Subaru there?  They're all I ever see in my sister's pictures.

There are a bunch of (awful) cars you can get brand new for under $20k here.

Here in the US, any compact/economy car will be under 20k.  Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla, Ford Focus, Chevy Cruze, etc...

You can even get some base model Accords for 21k.  No options.  It's a small crowd under 20k.  Now, if you go one or two model years old, then you have a wide variety of options.

Indeed, last year I bought a 13 charger for 11k cash. they always liquidate their last years models after they release new models. ofc, there are other variables like gas prices and the ebb and flow of demand, but its fairly predictable. Here in Nevada trucks are pricey but most 0 mile 2014's can be bought for 15-20k cash.

I lived in Christchurch in the 90's, in fact daughter was born there, I noticed the NZD was based off the yen. Is it still that way?

It's never been based off the yen.  We used to use the British pound until 1933, then the New Zealand pound until 1976.

The only commonality with the yen is that our dollar is also highly effected by currency trading. Our news networks do compare the currencies though, as well as Australia, Britian, Euro and USD during the business & finance section of the news.

I was curious:
Honda Civic 33k
Honda Accord 41k
Toyota Corolla 26k
Ford Focus 33k
Chev don't seem to have an official distributor in New Zealand.

The Toyota was a lot cheaper than I expected, I've never seen them on a lot for under 30k.

Looking at that list reminds me why I always buy second hand cars though.

Maybe that was it. I only remember having to exchange cash a quite often. when the yen was weak vs the dollar I would be flush with cash. 6 months later as the yen strengthened I lost purchasing power.

Dang, I wish it wasn't such a shitty flight, I would love to visit again.

btw, Honda civic 2015 on lot 20k usd, with .75 exchange rate and a 10-20% shipping fee, its a close match.

New pauper pack lancer is pretty close at $23k if memory serves.

The Kia has some (possibly) rubbish new cars around that price, and a Susuki swift is ? 18kNZ$.
