Free low-spec multiplayer games?
May 21st, 2015 at 3:07pm

I'm current confined to a 1.66GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Laptop and looking for free multiplayer games to waste some time on. Preferably one which has some sort of skill or development curve that isn't bogged down by P2W crap.

Any suggestions?

Note that this laptop can't handle 3D graphics.

It seems like a silly, simple game, but it's actually pretty complex and well thought out.  Also funny.  Very, very funny.  And there's new content constantly, and the devs are quite good at listening to the community and making changes based on feedback.

Aura Kingdom on low maybe. It's a rather quick grind(a week to hit the soft cap for leveling) then gets bogged down. I haven't been able to do the main raid yet, but the quality of gameplay is nice, for the most part.

I ended up installing Icewind Dale (non-EE version) and messing around with that. Any Infinity Engine game experts whose brains I can pick regarding builds on here? I'm still trying to work out a decent starting lineup to play through on normal. I'm going to use a point-buy system to severely limit my options. I have all the expansions.

I'm limiting myself to 76 build points per character and will probably play on Hard to start with.

So far I'm leaning towards one or two dual classed Fighter 9 > Clerics, a dual classed Thief 7 > Mage, a Half-Elf Bard and maybe some kind of Fighter > Thief combination for traps and archery. Fighter 9 > Thief is sub-optimal due to the fact that one can only reach 3 proficiency ranks in bows rather than the usual 5 for most weapon types, which costs the character an extra attack per round (the main reason to take Fighter 9).

My self-imposed build point pool severely limits a Fighter > Druid spit due to the fact that characters require a minimum of 15 in the prime requisite of the class one is planning to dual class from and a miminum of 17 in the class one is planning to dual class into.

Fitting 17 Cha on a Fighter, along with 15 Str and 18 Wis is too tight, as I'd have to dump either Dex or Con. I may have to consider multi-class options to cover healing and traps during the downtimes of dual classes.

Dominus!

dominusgame.net

Simply one of the best designs for multiplayer strategy I've seen out there. It's one of those open source things built by an idealistic fellow, so the pay-to-win simply doesn't exist. That said, there's also no money to combat cheaters. Double win for a Vaultie, yes?

Can the laptop handle Path of Exile?  If so I highly suggest it.

I'll check it out.

I just discovered and installed a copy of Homeworld 2 I bought from a bargain bin about 8 years ago as well.

I might just play that for a while.

It's a great game, but I don't think it's low spec. You should try it but if it's not doing well try it again when you've got a better PC.

Indeed there are! Just run multiple accounts and feed yourself to victory. All the cool kids do it.

While fun, PoE is very unoptimized. Players even have established strategies for teleporting when they trigger massive mob spawns, because you'd be dead before you get control back.

So, no, it's a hog of a game and they need to get the AI War people in there to make it run better. Now that there's some good base code.

dah fuq... KOL still lives? I was playing that shortly after highschool... Pastamancer... Maybe even in high school. Forget, it's been so long ago. I am amazed that it still exists. And, you say it's been continually updated?!

I graduated in 2003. Hence the surprise, a web game I used to kill time with, still exists.

Still exists, still relatively popular, still profitable.

Kind of a clinic on how to run a successful game, if you ask me.

I was addicted to Tribal Wars a few years back before it started taking more time than work permitted.  It's pretty much what every facebook war game is based off of - but with permadeath and not a huge cashgrab/freemium game like previously mentioned fb games are.

Haven't tried the new edition but the original was completely playable for free or slightly easier to manage for a fairly low subscription price (used to be all of three dollars a month).  Worth a look if you like RTS games

https://en.tribalwars2.com/#/

If you want something with slightly more graphics, you might want to try Stronghold Kingdoms.

Turbine policy - glitches and poor coding resulting in interference of your game play or enjoyment will be ignored.  Glitches or poor coding on the developers side that at all benefit your game play or enjoyment will result in your character being banned and/or items from your inventory deleted.  Please report all bugs via our bug report...when it works.
