Wow, how amazing is this writeup.
3 whole questions.
Turdbine are marketing gurus indeed - leave them hungry for more with that little teaser at the end....

Which Dev is John Cataldo?
I don't recognise him from his LinkedIn profile.  Obviously drew the short straw.

Where the hell was the Producer to speak on behalf of the product?

To my eyes, they are very quickly rushing to a stable "end" to sail the game off into maintenance mode.

Upping the amount of updates for the rest of this year?  Check.

Hurriedly trying to fix and smooth all enhancement trees?  Check.

Pushing unwarranted to level 30?  Check.

Pushing into new hardware to support the game in maintenance mode?  Check.

I don't know if it will be the end of this year, sometime next year, but it feels as if they definitely have a definitive game end deadline in their minds now.

it was never more clear then when they brought in sev_pay, who ushered AC into maintmode. What better person?

I don't remember what I was telling lasat year..... I thik it was along the lines :

2015 and eventually 2016 will see updates... after DDO will be in Maintenance Mode.

Now the interesting bit to start nagging Sev about is what he did/is doing/tried to do for AC... opening up the server code so that player run servers can be made.
( from what I've read the players still need to authenticate with Turbine... and even that seems to have changed... )

I can't imagine Hasbro letting Turbine turn loose a D&D licensed product even if they wanted to, but that would be ideal.

So what is the status of AC?

Turdbin, keep changing the DDO rules, because McDonalds sold over 200 billion hamburgers by changing the recipe for their Special Sauce every couple of months to keep interest up.

If players continue to drop subs, then that's the only outcome.

However, if they don't...well, they'll keep developing.

Theyve been heading to maintenance mode for the last 4 years... apparently.

Maybe they still have plans. Would be nice to have 15 or so more dungeons and a couple of new raids at 30.

And well balanced end game gear.

Would be nice but I would just be happy with a focus on bugs for a while...

Makes sense.
Sev's been in the role 6-12 months, so due for a move to
LOTRO.
I guess he can help them put LOTRO into maintenance too.

What I would give to see a dev have to deal with a actual real reporter instead of these glorified bloggers.

Sadly they are a fast vanishing breed, and not apt to cover niche MMO games, but their ability to smell fear and bullshit? five minutes with a Turbine stooge would drive them into a frenzy.

Has there ever been a real reporter when it came to PC games? Magazines and blogs have always been PR rags than actual journalism.

I remember Daikatana getting a bunch of good press during the years that it was being developed, but the reporting soured after it was released and flopped. Stuff like that happened before Daikatana and continued after. Gamergate just exposed the incestual nature of game developers and gamer magazines and blogs, but the extra fun of a sex scandal and political correctness and lulz.

All true, very true.

If I indulge myself a little bit, my fantasy journalist would be a former seasoned reporter from a mid-sized market who has just relocated and started writing for gaming after his Pulitzer prize winning newspaper went bankrupt. Ideally someone on the crime/municipal desk, who is used to learning the general shape and scope of complex entities quickly and has a well developed taste for nailing bullshit.

Oh well, it's nice to daydream.

Hey, as long as you're daydreaming, daydream a competent programmer who made his million working for Apple and went to work for Turbine after he relocated to Boston to take care of his sick mother.

Ideally someone who worked in 3d modeling and who is used to learning the intricacies of a large software project. Someone smart enough recognize bullshit and the brother in law of some hot-shot at Warner Brothers so Severance Pay can't fire him.

Either that or that the noob who's soulstone you carried to the shrine turned out to be Liv Tyler and she's so greatful she wants to come over to your place and teach you the Elvish Tongue.

But really, why stop at a good reporter?

Take a cold shower you pack of Pervs, I was trying to convey the fear that genuine external accountability would bring Turbine,

Not fill your damn spank-banks.
