So... after extensive testing...
Any 4 shroud accessories give a four piece set bonus to spell critical AND melee critical damage.
The amount of the bonus is determined by how many matching accessories you are wearing, ex. 3 dominion and 1 escalation would give the 4 piece set bonus, BUT the amount of the bonus would be determined as if you were wearing 3, due to only the 3 dominions matching.
With 3 tier 3 opposition and 1 tier 1 opposition you are getting 25% spell critical damage and 11% melee critical damage, along with 26% maximum hitpoints. With 3 Tier 3 opposition and 1 tier 3 escalation you are getting 23% spell critical damage and 10% melee critical damage, with no set bonus. With 3 tier 3 dominions and 1 tier 3 escalations you are getting 26% maximum SP with 23% spell critical damage and 11% melee critical damage.
Enjoy the info guys!
Only issue with this: Can you find 4 shroud items that you would want to wear? If weapons count, that would help a lot.
Melees:
The guards are non-starters for anyone (33d6 for a tier 3 = 115 average damage. Against mobs with 20k plus hp. Does spell power or melee power affect them? That could make them a possibility for casters more so than melees. Although casters don't generally want to take hits THAT often)
Obv, melees aren't going to be making spell crit items.
An SP item slot for cocoon, other possible ED abilities that use SP, and buffage is a waste. A topaz +250 is more than sufficent and everyone still has plenty of slots to use.
HP item, sure. That's 1.
Extend unconscious range with decent regen benefit, sure. That's 2.
But you have to grab two more of saves or triple negative, or elemental resists? Ugh. That's tossing two slots in the toilet. A hard sell, even for the incremental value on the sets.
Casters have a better shot, since they can easily justify a spell crit, SP, and HP item. (Although divines and warlocks (and bards, to some degree) get fucked on not having force, light, or sonic spell power in there). That 4th item is still a tough call though, given everything else you have to work in on the remaining slots.
I can't see doing a 4 item set on any of my characters unless weapons count. Although two and three item sets still get some bonus, so that's cool too. And probably enough benefit. Adds some complexity to mapping out what you make.
