First Epic Character - Help Needed

I just got my first character to epic. It's a warforged pure sorcerer. I'm noticing a lot of difficulty in play, especially at the boss fights. Even in heroics, I couldn't consistently solo hard quests at level. I'm not 100% sure this is the right forum for this, but none of the other forums seem to fit.

20 Sorc
Warforged

28 pts

18 Con, 16 Cha

All Skill Points into Concentration and Spellcraft.

Feats (Not in Order)
Maximize
Empower
Heighten
Quicken
Mental Toughness
Improved Mental Toughness
Spell Focus: Evocation

Enhancements

Warforged
Cores: 1, 2
Inscribed Armor I
Construct Toughness 1 and 2

Earth Savant
All Cores except Capstone
All SLAs
All Spell Critical
Efficient Maximize (3 ranks)
Tier 5 Water Spellpower
Both Charisma Enhancements
Acid Resistance I and Bypass Acid Resistance I

Water Savant
Cores except Capstone
All Spell Criticals
Hoarfrost III
1 Charisma Enhancement
Efficient Empower (3 Ranks)

Spells:
1: Hypnotism, Nightshield, Prot from Evil, Jump
2: Blur, Resist Energy, Web, Invis
3: Sleet Storm, Suggestion, Displacement, Haste
4: Ice Storm, Stoneskin, Acid Rain, Dimension Door
5: Prot from Elements, Eladar's Electric Surge, Niac's Biting Cold, Prismatic Ray
6: Mass Suggestion, Otiluke's Freezing Sphere, Disintegrate, Reconstruct
7: Otto's Sphere, Finger of Death, Waves of Exhaustion
8: Black Dragon Bolt, Polar Ray, Otto's Irresistible Dance
9: PW: Kill, Mass Hold Monster, Wail of the Banshee

Right now my strategy is to use Acid Blast SLA, and Otiluke's Freezing Sphere, with Acid Spray SLA to finish off groups, and use Polar Ray and BDB against stronger individuals or Evasion mobs. If there are too many mobs, I lay down Ice Storm and Acid Rain and spam Acid Blast and Spray.

All my equipment is random loot except my Stone Exoskeleton Docent. I have the highest glaciation I can get, the highest corrosion I can get, deathblock, speed VI, deathblock, cons+9, cha +6 (I haven't found a higher cha item yet).

I'm trying to run Epic Normal, and have two big issues. I'm failing Concentration checks sometimes, and any enemies with Evasion always make their saves. This isn't a problem if there are only a few, but too many and I can't launch my single target spells fast enough.

So, my questions are: Are there any really glaringly obvious problems in my build or playstyle? Is there any way a first-life Sorc can DC cast on Epic Normal? Is another savancy combo better for a first life?

Any help whatsoever is appreciated.

First live sorc is fine in heroics when you have good spellpower and spell focus items. Epics suck imho but the past live is useful for a warlock.

You don't seem to have an epic destiny. You need EDs for epic play, I can't stress that enough. I realize that you may be f2p or short on TP. In that case I recommend you TR and save up the TP you get from favor until you have enough to get EDs on sale. (Devil Assault is the fastest token farm if you have generous party members, otherwise Time is Money is the most efficient solo farm.)

Yes and no. Just spamming the same spell rotation at every enemy is going to be weak against some of them. Evasion mobs are giving you trouble, so you can target their weak save with a Hypnotism - Mass Hold Monster combo, or you can debuff their reflex...Solid Fog gives -5 reflex.

You can opt to focus on no-save spells though. An Earth Savant's Power Word stun - Acid Arrow combo should kill any EN mob. Energy Drain, Enervation, Symbol of Death are all your friends.

The other option is to go Shiradi Champion once you get EDs. This style spams spells that count as more than one spell to maximize proc damage. A Shiradi just casting Magic Missile and Scorching Ray over and over will likely out DPS any rotation you are running right now (or Chain Missiles and Meteor Swarm for AoE.)

This post is old, but should give you a good idea of what to do with your sorc if you go Shiradi:

Air and fire is generally considered the best. Also everybody loves Wind Dance.

Earth or Water will still be plenty good on EN in Draconic Incarnation if you concentrate on no-save spells. Try rotating Black Dragon Bolt, Polar Ray, and Acid Arrow for single targets. For AoE it's Acid Fog, Icestorm and Acid Rain

I forgot to mention I'm level 0 rank 2 in Draconic Incarnation. I grabbed Energy Sheath (Cold).

I do want to TR, but it will probably take a long time because I want to have two tier II or III Heroic Greensteel Items (Triple Air Cloak and Triple Lightning Rapier).

The Acid Arrow SLA does really low damage. I only use it when a mob has a sliver of health left.

I started out pure Earth Savant, used a Blood of Dragons to switch to Air Savant, took more than year long break, returned and used my second B of D to switch to Earth/Water. I like Water because it has a bunch of spells that don't look at reflex saves (Polar Ray and Frost Lance), and Earth because the Acid Blast SLA. It's pretty SP efficient, and I'm not very skilled at the game, so ablative protection like Stoneskin is better for me than Kiting Protection.

Thanks for all the advice!

Is it a good idea to grab the Water capstone and run with a cleric or fvs hireling?

I would look for the daily run trains to jump on so you can chase melees around casting your spell rotation.  Pretty fast and easy XP to get your destinies workes up and get tokens for TRing.  Repeat until you either have tokens for the heart of wood or your eyes are bleeding from the repeats.

If you can roll it you can smoke it.  If you can carve it you can smoke with it.

Just making sure that you realize... sorc capstones have two components, active (the elemental form) and passive

You also gain the following passive benefits, even while not in elemental form:
    +2 Charisma
    +10 Acid Spell Power
+1 Caster Level when casting Acid and Earth spells
+1 Maximum Caster Level when casting Acid and Earth spells
-10 Electric and Sonic Spell Power
-1 Caster Level when casting Electric, Sonic, and Air spells.

Get a capstone.

Pumping your ED levels in all destinies gets you fate points, which you can use to open twists. Even with low fate points, having your three slots all level 1 opens up a lot of raw power. I actually like having a lot of tier 1s, because sometimes tier 1 abilities just give you +6 reflex saves and I need to beat the shit out of Miior.

I can't stress this enough: Level up your destinies. Even putting 0 points in a tree but having one active is hugely powerful. Epics without a leveled ED is like doing heroics sans your enhancement trees.

Does blocking really help survivability that much? I can probably figure out a way to wear a shield and still have zero asf.

It does not, though there are small gains in PRR and MRR. Not worth the tradeoff for a sorc though.

There was a time when blocking could save you from some mob special attacks. With lag the way it is now, I wouldn't recommend.
