You don't actually get a whole lot from doing this, certainly not XP.  One or two (usually crappy) pokemon hatching isn't really worth the effort for most people.

Oh yeah just saying people will always find ways to "cheat'" the system. I know he hatches the eggs that way, thought he said he also gets xp for "walking" to though.

Can´t download it in Germany.
It seems the number of downloads crashed the server and they have stopped the international release "until they feel comfortable".

If you want an emergency phone, you can get a Trac Phone smart phone from Wal-Mart on-line for $10, add a 32 GB SD card for another $10 and you have a basic smartphone with emergency (911) calling capability for $20. You also have a great Mp3 player with (crappy) camera, web browser, and apps. I use my iPad mini as my phone (the office pays for data as long as I leave it on 1 weekend a month, and Lync can send and receive calls) but have the $20 phone because I download many MP3s. Mostly I'm listening to audiobooks so I download a new one every week, and it's convenient to do it directly on the device instead of downloading to the computer and then copying it to the device. And if you're ever going on a trip and want to unlock it for a month as a full cell phone you can without a contract. The screen resolution is pretty bad, but I can even read The Vault on it if I'm ever really bored  Roll Eyes

They don't work in canada.  Also we don't have  wifi everywhere out in the country up here.

I think it counts toward medals/achievements which give some XP. But, it would be limited.

This game makes you get up and walk around outside.  It uses gps tags to detect your location and movement.  It's one small step to the next genera of gaming, Augmented Reality.  AR is a share environment, you "live in" the gaming world.  Your physical presence and activities become part of the game.  It's a very exciting time.

When AR hits full stride, probably 2035-2045 we will see a monumental shift in "our", higher capita states only, average daily lives.  If any of you are game addicts now...  you should start investing your money because you are going to be taking a heroin ride real soon and I dought recovery will be an option.  AR will dominate your life.  Because AR will let you "be" anything/anyone "do" anything/anyone or "live" in any time or place.

Next step, MMOLARP?

It could mix LARP and MMO interestingly.  The worst part about LARP has always been the lack of actual spells and magic and combat and traps and such.  now all that can be done on the screen.

Live Augmented Role Playing.

Ingress has been going for like 2 1/2 years now, and you're supposed to be some secret agent or some shit.  I dunno.

Still waiting for something like .hack or Sword Art Online before I take the VR/AR plunge.

Seriously though I haven't had a cell phone in the last 10 years and have no clue what I should be looking for, what's your guys preferences and why?

For someone like you I'd recommend a Galaxy S5, little bit older, so it's cheap. It was really popular, so there's a lot of third party support, making it easy to root, it has replaceable batteries and a microSD slot.

I'd like to add to this. If you want a built in stylus like the smart phones of ancient history, the Galaxy Note phones are a good choice. Although, keep in mind they can be a bit big. Like 5.5 inch screen (measured diagonally).

Nice thing about the built in stylus for those phones is that they have a precision tip. Not those big rubbery tips like any standard stylus for a capacitive touch screen.

The styluses have some other real neat features. Like when you hover over the screen with it, the phone can sense that, and treats it like a mouse cursor. One example is that you could use that on website that has those drop down tabs when you hover over them with your mouse. Hovering the stylus will act just like you're hovering a mouse cursor over it.

Note 3 and 4 have a removable battery and Micro SD card slot, so those could be a good choice. Note 5 doesn't have a Micro SD slot or removable battery, but they are bringing the Micro SD card slot back with the Note 7. (They're skipping Note 6)

But yeah, only if you fancy a stylus. Can be a nice tool for certain games.

I didn't mean use wifi to make the emergency call, in the USA all phones have to be allowed to dial 911 even if phone service is turned off, I meant to use that for emergency callng.

It would certainly be a pain to use it as a phone, but, at least here, it's a nice MP3 player and good to have around if you need to call 911.

I definitely reccommend a real phone if you want modern smartphone features, I wouldn't be satisfied with it as my primary mobile device.

Speaking of Ingress, for those that don't know, Pokemon is built on the exact same map/engine. If you look up the ingress map, all the "portals" are now "pokestops" etc.

Helpful if you're looking for high-density pokestop areas...

Not that I would ever use such a strategy mind you...

many still do, but it moves from a stampede to casual playing while walking...

because of several stupid changes from Niantic...

Some days it seems that they try to beat Turbine on the game killing scale.
