It looks awesome!  Not all mobile game suck.  I watched the add with the raid style fight in time square.  would be even better with VR headset.

This game makes you get up and walk around outside.  It uses gps tags to detect your location and movement.  It's one small step to the next genera of gaming, Augmented Reality.  AR is a share environment, you "live in" the gaming world.  Your physical presence and activities become part of the game.  It's a very exciting time.

When AR hits full stride, probably 2035-2045 we will see a monumental shift in "our", higher capita states only, average daily lives.  If any of you are game addicts now...  you should start investing your money because you are going to be taking a heroin ride real soon and I dought recovery will be an option.  AR will dominate your life.  Because AR will let you "be" anything/anyone "do" anything/anyone or "live" in any time or place.

If we develop Artificial Intelligence before this time ... humanity will not survive.

For someone like you I'd recommend a Galaxy S5, little bit older, so it's cheap. It was really popular, so there's a lot of third party support, making it easy to root, it has replaceable batteries and a microSD slot.

Great, now I have to go w/o a cell phone for 11 years just to be irrationally competitive about something that doesn't matter with someone I don't know...

Creative criminals.

4 suspects charged with using 'Pokemon Go' to commit armed robberies

Quote:
ST. CHARLES COUNTY (KMOV.com) -

Four teens allegedly used the newly-released "Pokemon Go" app to commit multiple robberies in St. Louis and St. Charles counties.

Brett Miller, 17, of St. Peters, Jamine Warner, 18, of O'Fallon,Mo., and Shane Backer, 18, of Wentzville are charged with first-degree robbery and armed criminal action. A 16-year-old suspect has also been charged

The suspects were located by O'Fallon Police after responding to an armed robbery call around 2 a.m. Sunday near Highway K and Feise Road in St. Charles County. The suspects were sitting inside a vehicle and a handgun was recovered from them, police said.

Police believe the suspects conducted multiple armed robberies by targeting their victims through the mobile game "Pokemon Go." They believe the suspects added a beacon near a Poke-stop in their location, which could lure more players nearby.

This is the risk with any app that uses GPS to track your location, especially in conjunction with other players.  They will turn it into PvP - real world style.

I wonder how long it will be before GPS-centric games are regulated/banned.

You know it's gonna happen, if the "genre" takes off, it's just a question of when.

You can play the game completely un-competitively.  Gym battles are completely optional, and most of the important benefits of it can be gotten for a few bucks.

Good recommendation. I'd recommend going with the S5 Sport. The protective case is built in so you can actually enjoy the thin phone and not fatten it up with one of those stupid rubber cases.

Thanks for the advice, will look into these.  While I have enjoyed being cell free guess I should have one for emergencies and the like when not at home.

I use a google hangouts account on my android tablet as my sell phone.

It has great features: send text, sms, pictures, video chat, voice mail, and all messages are transcribed to my gmail.

monthly bill: $0

hindrances: need wifi / data connection to use.
but there is free wifi all around now a days.

pair with a grandfathered Verizon unlimited data plan to win at life.

I agree with this, the S6 doesn't have a micro SD slot, but they brought it back with the S7.

I like how it's a game that encourages you to get out and go on walks. Wii Fit is the only other video game I can think of which incentivized actual exercise, and didn't really do that very well.

I don't like how the media makes it out to be some "safety risk," because of dumb people oblivious of their surroundings getting into accidents and walking into walls. Play it responsibly and you won't get injured.

I don't like how draining it is on my phone's battery, though I can't say I'm really surprised, given that you have to keep your screen on and have your GPS on while playing it.

I don't like how the social aspects of the game are really, really limited. For something Pokemon themed, the social part of the game should've been a much huger component than it is currently. Even the gen 1 games had more meaningful social interaction, and those were what, 20 years ago?

All things considered, I like it. It has a lot of potential and I have hopes for it, but I can also see it going the way of Candy Crush. You know, one of those pay2win games with no meaningful gameplay? That seems to be the trend that every other mobile game has followed, and I fear that Pokemon Go will go the same route. But until/if that time comes, it's entirely probably I'll log more hours on that game than I will on DDO.  Grin

If you want an emergency phone, you can get a Trac Phone smart phone from Wal-Mart on-line for $10, add a 32 GB SD card for another $10 and you have a basic smartphone with emergency (911) calling capability for $20. You also have a great Mp3 player with (crappy) camera, web browser, and apps. I use my iPad mini as my phone (the office pays for data as long as I leave it on 1 weekend a month, and Lync can send and receive calls) but have the $20 phone because I download many MP3s. Mostly I'm listening to audiobooks so I download a new one every week, and it's convenient to do it directly on the device instead of downloading to the computer and then copying it to the device. And if you're ever going on a trip and want to unlock it for a month as a full cell phone you can without a contract. The screen resolution is pretty bad, but I can even read The Vault on it if I'm ever really bored  Roll Eyes

Turdbin, keep changing the DDO rules, because McDonalds sold over 200 billion hamburgers by changing the recipe for their Special Sauce every couple of months to keep interest up.

My friend put the phone on his train set instead of walking to get xp and hatching those poke eggs.

Just put phone on train set all day going in circles in room all day.

You don't actually get a whole lot from doing this, certainly not XP.  One or two (usually crappy) pokemon hatching isn't really worth the effort for most people.
