Anyone tried it or actively playing?  Is it worth the download?  Since DDO seems to be going further into maintenance mode, I'm looking for something new and keep seeing the ads, so figured someone here might have some good input.

Hello Darkness, my old friend!  It's nice to talk with you again!

It's a serious cash game, Saal.  One of the only ones where in game currency can be turned into real world cash directly.   People have sold stuff for literally hundreds of thousands of dollars.  The game has been around since 2003 so it is older than DDO.  It seems more like EVE to me in that it is a PvP/social/trading kind of game more than a PvE kind of game.  I don't have personal experience with it, but a RL friend of mine played it for a while and tried to get me to start playing, but this was back in 2008/09 when DDO was new and fresh for me and I was dialed in, so I didn't have the time or interest.  He used to talk about it regularly, but stopped playing a few years ago, if I recall correctly.   Maybe around the time GW2 came out.  He got into that game pretty heavily.

I dabbled in it briefly and can say this much I wish every cent I ever spent on DDO had been invested into that game instead.

It actually is in a way several game worlds with the ability to actually travel through space where much risk and adventure await for space piracy is a real thing in that game.

But had I spent the money their and invested it in top gear a good ship and a nice bit of land it only goes up in value
And whenever a new world comes out its like the wild west land grab. Those who get somewhere first and get the oririganl game sold lot will in time be sitting on a fortune.

One of the most famous was a small time Brit actor actually mortgaged his home and took out a plan to buy an asteroid space station resort he eventually sold for some nutso amount that end up in Guinness records.

For a truly devoted gamer it can at least be a source of viable income. With many a story of a kid starting g out around d twelves getting parental help with the account t set up and using just their allowance and gamer skills to amass enough to put themselves through college.

I can't even make virtual money in DDO, pretty sure I'd do even worse "investing" in Entropia Tongue

I'll never understand the propensity of people to brag about being good at a video game. Its a toy you play with for fun. The only person who should be proud of you is your mother. If you're 3.

For most its gradual. Start by paying in ten to twenty a month equiv to a typical monthly fee and use it on the obvious like ammo and fuel for the free land vehicle you will get. Just learn to play then like with any game. Eventually you should get your legs under you to where your earning enough in game to cover those needs letting v your monthly funds either build up slowly or use it wisely on modest upgrades in gear. Treat it like the sci fi life you want to live be it explorer trader pirate mercy whatever. Do what you love and if the old saying is true then even if you never hit it big you won't feel like you ever lost.

Some might also be wondering how a game with what seems like so much potential to grief others grows and prospers. Its because grieifing harrasment even conning people in game can and will get your account banned and all your funds confiscated by the company and on top of that they do list such names on their forums and to add further injury to the insult they then auction off all that players in game possessions to the community and pocket all that to. Yes a good bit of the game companies profit comes from removing the worst kind of gamers from the game.

That's pretty funny. EVE would be dead so fast if they did that there.
