Hello builders, I'm getting back into playing and I'm trying to catch up on the changes of the last year so I can field some decent toons, and I had some questions about the monks that I'm hoping I can get some feedback on.
♣ Other than the obvious Melee power boost and PRR what is the real strength of the Henshin?
♣ It seems that all the fire resist and fire Debuff are one-legged
♣ Not seeing anything worth buying, or at least not 40 points worth to get the most out of the core melee power buffs.
♠ Ninja appears to my (out of date) eye to have received the best revamp, is that a accurate surmise?
♠ Are kamas a viable weapon in the current game?
✠ Shinto appears to be marginal or perhaps even less useful than it was a year ago, but am I overlooking things?
✠ Am I wrong to think that almost everything the Shinto tree has of merit now can be duplicated in other class abilities, items, feats making it redundant?
I guess the overall question would be to ask if a pure monk going to be able to handle endgame as well as other melees now, or at least still be fun enough to play. I also am curious as to the apparent pull back on power that I'm seeing in the monk changes are typical of the revamps of the last year or so? Because they were fooling around with rangers when I was last active and that didn't look all the amazing.
All the tier 2 ki strikes are excellent.
Unbalancing gives SA when you have agro.
Knock the Sky reduces boss damage.
etc.
Jade Strike is tits. 10% stacking damage buff. -25% fort on target.
For this reason I think a 3 monk splash with tactics on fighter is the way to go.
Either the BAMBAM with Sam build on the mobos. (12 / 4 / 4, Fighter monk ranger).
Or 12 / 6 / X, Fighter Monk THF build.
Pure monk seems ineffective especially since they fucked up the handwraps distance.
12 monk / 8 fighter seems good as well. The new fighter feats make up for loss of monk levels on tactical feats. Power Surge helps too. The centering with Khopeshes is bomb.
For a pure monk I'd say Shintao with Dex-to-damage from Ninja and some MP from Henshin while picking up the tier 2 strikes. Grab KTA for tactics. Handwraps are decent and you get all the normal monkey stuff with higher DCs than previously. Not my cup of tea though
