Dwarf, Lost to time?

Is there any reason to play a Dwarf anymore other than flavor?  Are there any builds that actually favor them anymore, or anything?

Converse among yourselves.

That depends on whether you consider Vanguard a flavor build. Because they are still good for S&B.

I guess my point is, are they any better than human or other race in that role. I was a Dwarf fan for a while, I like how they look and such but now running one seems like a compromise on performance.

I consider S&B a compromise in the context of tanks not mattering (that might change in the future though.)

Still Dwarf is probably the best way to do S&B if you are going to do it.

The bonus skill points don't matter. The bonus feat is equalized by Dwarven Waraxe proficiency. That leaves enhancements...human tends to trump everyone else because of the % based action boost making the other races small static bonuses insignificant. However, S&B Dwarf has Dwarf Fortress. So you have a full time 7% damage boost competing with a 20% boost for ~3 minutes. It is expensive at 18 AP, but there is enough worthwhile in the tree that you won't have any filler.

So you're looking at 18 in Dwarf (+10 hp, +3 dodge, +1 to hit/+1 damage, +4% hp, +3 fortitude, -3 reflex, PRR AB, +6 AC, +3 Intim), 41 in Vanguard, 20 in Defender, 1 in KotC on a pure pally.

(TYWA and fortress cost 24 together /vomit)

Human would go 12 in Human (AB, +1 stat, +2 action surge, Hamp, Shield Mastery, Hamp), 41 in Vanguard, 1 in KotC,  27 in Defender (+5 PRR/MRR, +6 str or con, 10% move speed and +30% to full plate bonus.)

+5 spell saves for builds that lack saves or enhancement trees to put points in. Like druid.

I've done dwarf barbarian, 2wf, for a change of pace.  Not top tier or anything, but different and can be fun. Haven't tried dwarf tank as I hate tank builds.

Technically it'll be "Dwarven Axe & Board" but, you know, semantics.

That may be one good reason the dwarves feel so abandoned: they're basically the one character that gets a racial weapon... and no good racial weapons are released for them. When was the last time a dwarven axe came out? MOTU?

I'll never understand the propensity of people to brag about being good at a video game. Its a toy you play with for fun. The only person who should be proud of you is your mother. If you're 3.

MOTU and Epic Gianthold.  IIRC those are the only two.

The style is still called S&B. If you want to be technical, the shield won't be a board as well as the axe not being a sword.

If you don't count TF, LGS, and ToEE, there's still Prison Break.

No. That was a middle finger, not an option.

Well none of them are amazeballs. They'll use TF and LGS in the end just like everyone else. Leveling doesn't matter.

True, and true. Just pointing out that there's a line somewhere even if it's fuzzy, and Prison Break is way. the. fuck. over that line.

I did a twf dwarf wraith thing... you lose dwaraxe proficiency when you go undead though, so it wasn't great.  Looked cool though.   Smiley

How many races really are top shelf?  I see the same 3-4 races used repeatedly.  The rest are more flavor than anything else.
