New Magic Deck

I know plenty of you on here play. I'm looking for thoughts on a new Modern deck to build. I have a pretty fun Tron deck thats highly enjoyable, so combo is covered. My friend plays really heavy aggro decks(Soul Sisters, 8-Whack) so I don't really want to go with something down those lines, but it does need to be able to handle aggro(tron often cannot, especially not when they are running ghost quarter).

I also don't really feel like addressing the massive costs of buying into staples like Infect or Affinity(also fuck Affinity, if you meet an Affinity player, spit on them).

So, not sure. Wanting something really high-tier but fun and different.

iv taken a few tourneys with boros landfall, probably my favourite modern deck and a strong aggro deck for sure

http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/my-modern-boros/

that is the last version of it I used. the mana tithes won it for me, countered a cryptic command Cheesy

if you decide you want a combo deck that will make people quit magic then try esper time sieve

http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/esper-time-sieve-control/

I had a guy get up in the top 8 of a tournament and tell me he was gonna go smoke a cigaret and I could tell him if he won when he got back.

*EDIT* the landfall deck would cost ya about $800, time sieve is a bit more budget friendly at around $250.

i can give you cheaper fun decks if you like but they bay not perform top teir 100% of the time.

Both decks just got a good deal cheaper with Modern Masters 2017, that and I already have a good number of the cards required.

I'm leaning heavily towards that Esper time seive... I do like a deck that takes 20 minute turns :Cheesy

As much fun as Boros Landful looks like, it uses too many goblins(my buddy's main deck is 8-whack, which is all goblins and wins every game on pure flavor, so I can't intrude on his "thing").

Went ahead and bought Esper Time Seive. It WAS being really cheap up until I got to Time Warp Tongue Whole deck only cost $150 though, +2 or 3 cards I already had.

It looks like it should be a lot of fun. I'm still trying to quite get the mechanics right in my head, but the wincon appears to be "Take a shitload of free turns, summon a shitload of artifacts, tezzeret that shit into an army and swing for an upsettingly lethal amount of damage".

that's the basics.

use borderpost cheaty face ability to build artifacts as soon as possible
fog early on with safe passage ect,
dont forget you can put multiple turns on the stack in the same turn, something like tap time sieve and sac the artifacts then use tezzy to untap time sieve, do it again, second sunrise and do it all again for 4 turns on the stack
sacing the prophetic gets you draw power on their return. also if you have elswyr flask it is the better choice over prophetic, I just didn't have them and that's my deck you see there. save the cryptics as long as you can to ensure your win condition.

I don't have the may board or sideboard on there but tormods crypt, reliquary tower and 2 extra cryptics are all good choices.

keep careful track of the cards in your library, with too many howling mines you can mill yourself so be mindful of their existence when choosing what to sac with time sieve.

the last thing to remember is to open the vaults hits everything in your graveyard regardless of how long it been there but second sunrise only works on things that were put there the turn you play it so don't get it mixed up.

it takes a bit of practice to master but it's a fun deck to be sure. I'd recommend using the playtest feature on tapped out until the cards arrive. I'm not sure how the meta has changed since I was last active competitively, so keep an eye out for ways to upgrade the deck, let me know if you see anything cool.

Chromatic Star might be a slightly better choice than the flask for the prism. 1 less mana but you get the card draw on it leaving play. If the card is only there as a sack item that cantrips, the star might preform slightly better.

The other card I am curious about is Safe Passage; I see how it can be a 1-sides boardwipe, but in general I feel there are better fog cards out there. Is there something about that card I'm missing?

Lol, it almost feels like the deck could just run Wrath of God in it's place, 1 extra mana to just occasionally wipe the board. Hell since all your artifacts are artifacts, you could wipe the board, -5 tez, and crunch in.

I've been out of the constructed tourney scene for some time, but this is what I was looking at making back when DDO didn't work:

4x Llanowar Elves

SB:

Viridian Zealot

Intruder Alarm + Llanowar Elves + Imperious Perfect = infinite elves on turn 3

Intruder Alarm + Bloom Tender + Rhys the Redeemed = infinite elves on turn 3

Intruder Alarm + Elvish Archdruid + Wren's Run Packmaster = infinite wolves

Or mix and match mana producers with token makers.

hmm i ran wrath for quite a while and i used damnation at times, it all depends on the meta environment you are playing in, the wraths would have been in my side for that build of the deck for sure, i think it wasnt there because the majority of decks i was facing that day were either  control or indestructible decks so good catch. il see if i can find mt side board list to post for you

That deck looks hilarious enough that I may have to build it as well. Will have to fiddle a bit to make sure its all modern legal, but it looks annoying as shit and just funny.

The metta I'm up against right now is heavily aggrol, there's not a terrible amount of indestructible happening in modern right now, but I also very largely play against a handful of friends, whom, as we have established, I apparently hate(I always carry a vintage infinite combo deck... just in case they need a reminder).

Wrath would be a good choice for clearing the board, then you only need to have 4 artifacts out when you alt Tez. Anither good choice is the various 1-mana fogs.

I actually once built a green and white deck that was, if I recall, just 40 fogs and basic lands. It had no wincon. It made me laugh.

FYI that Bloom Tender now sells for about $30 a pop, so in case you happen to still have those cards lying around and need a quick $120, heads up.

So this is really amusing to me:

Total cost of 5 Foot's deck, minus lands: $218

(I say minus lands because every good player has a play-set of fetches and shocks)

Total cost minus Rhys the Redeemed and Bloom Tender: $50

The deck is super-budget except for 2 really expensive cards. I'm not going to be building it at the moment since I don't quite feel like laying out that another few hundred bucks, but GP Las Vegas is coming up and even though I don't play in the main events, it might be fun to have another "Surprise" deck to pull out for casual rounds. I need to get my cards back from the guy who's sorting 'em, I probably HAVE most of the cheapo cards in that infinite elves deck.

Just waxing philosophic at this point...

Ethereal Haze
Holy Day

Good 1-manna fogs, though it's worth searching for another 2-mana fog that has more value. I like this deck... assuming I can pilot it without crashing it should be hilarious the first time I combo off Tongue

you might notice that the decks' entire build was all standard at one point except the second sunrise. I basically took my standard deck and was in the process of making it modern, all the fogs there were from the standard version but I would still keep pollen lullaby

In that case there might be a handful of other entertaining upgrades out there, will have to play with it some! For example, there's a 2-mana artifact in standard that draws you a card when it comes in to play AND when it leaves.

Also might be some better mana rocks out there, tough to say. I'm a big fan of mana rocks...

Man those were the days, weren't they? I think that was the first time they had to ban something in standard in YEARS!

Of course I think a lot of people got really angry over the whole Archbound Ravager thing just dominating the format. 5 Foot knows what I'm talking about Tongue

So small change to the mana base. Instead of:

4x Glacial Fortress
4x Island
3x Plains
2x Swamp

I'm going to do:

4x Glacial Fortress
3x Island
2x Plains
1x Swamp
2x Flooded Strand
1x Sunken Hollow

I am toying with running Marsh Flats now that its affordable. You can't use shocks in a deck like this because you are bounding lands, but the fetches do this the deck out nicely. I might trade 1 flooded strand for a Marsh Flats and put the second swamp back in...

I didn't forget, but remember the fetch fetches out basic lands. So you lay down a fetch, fetch out a basic, tap it for one mana, and play the boarderpost. Now you've got 1 basic in your hand and on less card in your deck.

We'll see how it works in practice Tongue I may end up ripping em out and sticking to basics.

Ichor Wellspring was the card I meant to find. 2 mana artifact: you draw a card when it comes into play AND when it leaves play. Does that sound like a good upgrade to Prophetic Prism or Elsewhere Flask?

they are there to mana fix more than to draw. time warp, cryptic command and open the vaults can all be hard to hit early game.
