Just want to clarify: you have to be at or around quest level?

Or can I, say, take my lvl 18 character into a lvl 8 quest and still find mimics?

Within four levels of the adjusted quest level.  I'm not clear if that's four levels inclusive, or four levels exclusive.

Guide says it's within 4 levels of the quest level. Coco on the MB says it's 4 levels from adjusted quest level. One or the other. (Haven't had time to login and really check)

To add to this: looks like it could be a mixed party, but the proper level toon needs to pop the chest. Here's a post from the motherboards:

Quote:
More data:

Irestone Inlet Chests:11 Mimics:2 Casual
Irestone Inlet Chests:09 Mimics:1 Casual
Irestone Inlet Chests:10 Mimics:2 Casual
Irestone Inlet Chests:09 Mimics:1 Casual
Irestone Inlet Chests:11 Mimics:1 Casual
Haverdasher Chests:02 Mimics:0 Hard
Haverdasher Chests:02 Mimics:0 Hard
Haverdasher Chests:02 Mimics:0 Hard
Haverdasher Chests:02 Mimics:1 Hard
Haverdasher Chests:02 Mimics:0 Hard
Ringleader Chests:05 Mimics:0 Elite
Ringleader Chests:05 Mimics:1 Elite
Ringleader Chests:05 Mimics:1 Elite
Ringleader Chests:05 Mimics:0 Elite
Ringleader Chests:05 Mimics:1 Elite

Three characters, L22, L22, L7.  L22 characters buff L7 character and set their hires to guard her.  L7 character opens all chests.  Irestone Inlet runs about 10 minutes each.  Haverdasher runs under 2 minutes each.  Ringleader runs under 5 minutes each.  The L22 characters are completely unnecessary but I wanted to test how Mimic Token Thingys work in a mixed level party.

Subversion Chests:04 Mimics:1 Heroic Casual

Three characters, L22, L22, L15.  L22 character clears dungeon but L15 character opens chest.  In the Dangerous Artifact Storage Area the first chest was the treasure chest so I could not test if opening a mimic could produce two mimics.  Mimics in the Dangerous Artifact Storage Area do not drop Mimic Token Thingys.

Fuckin-A they wanna make this a grind-fest!

And here I was all ready to shell out for mimic bait and go speed-running Irestone Inlet. I wouldn't mind so much spending 2-3 hours grinding out one of those items if I got to just laugh my way through content, but this is just irritating.

Mimic Event - Non-ransackable token farming

I agree with his comments about Irestone chests.  Hasn't been mentioned here, but the devs fatfingered mimics to scale as bosses so the acid dot will wreck you.  I was getting my shit pushed in thanks to 75 acid/tick from 2 stacks.

Eventually, they'll get the balance exactly as they want. And then the event will consist solely of remembering to talk to the NPC who turns it off.

Russian roulette chests is the best thing ever. People fear opening that chest now. Could be shitty loot or a crazy acid dot and shitty loot! Win/Win

Never bothered testing it but if key chests are non ransackable and continue to get mimics, the very first quest would be a very quick and easy grind.

I wouldn't mind a very quick and easy grind. If there was something repeatable I could do to get a mimic every time that only took 2-3 minutes I could definitely be bothered to grind out one piece of equipment!

As is I think mimic tokens are just going to sit in my bag, unless they do this a few times a year Tongue waaaaaay too fuckin much trouble just to get 1 thing.

I farmed VoN2, EH. The Quori Stalker spiders can spawn champs (quite often) which then can spawn chests that can't be ransacked. 1 to 6 chests in about 2 to 3 minutes. Don't forget to drop down for a chance at another spider champ.

My best run was 3 chests where 2 mimics appeared. I probably farmed about 30 tokens in about 2.5 hours over the last two nights where I got my 80th.

EE obviously increases the spawn rates of champs but I found that it also increased my run times proportionately, if not more so.

I used my level 21 monk thrower/challenge farmer.

With that drop rate, I'd rather slam my dick in a car door.  The healing amp on the belt is kinda sexy for TR trains, but not sexy enough to spend 28-30 hours to farm ML 4, 8, 12 and 16 versions.

I appreciate the insight.  If that qualifies as shenanigans around here, I'm glad I've ignored this event.

Yeah.  First two chests don't ransack.

The other trick is logging out every 2 mimics to reset your 'chance to get a mimic' variable.

When you log in you get initialized with a high chance to spawn a mimic.  You'll almost always get a mimic your first or second chest pull and pretty often you'll get a second mimic by your 4th.

After that you'll get a mimic every ~9 pulls or so.

However, if you log out and log back in it resets that variable and you're back to having a high chance of pulling 2 mimics within your first few pulls.

So even if you want to 'do it legit' and not farm Korthos just log out/log back in between every dungeon to reset your chance of getting a mimic.

I checked it out for the hell of it and can confirm two things -

First - It's a quicker farm than Haverdasher or Millers...it shaves at least a good 15 seconds off the pointless grind (but at least with the korthos quests you can do some pointless collectables farming along with the mimic farming).

More importantly I can confirm you were right to sit the event out.  I spent a day grinding out enough to get a cloak before realizing they were basically worthless.  I thought it was going to give a bump to my PRR, but it's a base rate that scales with Cannith Crafting.

The event has Turbine written all over it.  Slow, pointless and unfun grind for cute but worthless loot.  Outside of the collectable crates, all the event is doing is making soloing quests more difficult (those mimics are fucking hell on hires).

As usual, they even fucked up the greedy, money hungry aspect.

Pot boosts would have sold higher than the one-shots they were selling and item boosts (like mimic hats) would have flown off the racks at even 295 DDO points.  They really need to dip into their budget and send someone on their team to a sales and marketing course.

This must be the "insidious exploit" Cordovan referenced on the live stream today.

A guildy used this method with a 7 Warlock and managed to net 35 tokens in an hour.  While not great, it's a hell of alot better than other methods mentioned.

that's only a 140 minute farm per item!!! look out ssg, better nix that sploit quickly because you don't want people actually playing the game for 2 hours.

For most people it's that and kill yourself, though.

Hopefully the mimic event is something they turn on every 6-8 weeks like the remnant hunter.  So people can slowly acquire the items and makes for some fun variation.   If it is once a year or less then the prices are way too high for the drop rate.

You know, the wife and I have been playing pretty steadily for the past few days and the mimic event isn't half as bad as I'd feared.
