Ravenloft was voted the #2 MMO expansion in 2017 by Massively readers.
This likely had something to do with the fact that SSG had practically nothing to do with the design, since it was almost verbatim cloned from the pnp 5E "Curse of Strahd" module.
It was simply mapped to the game. The maps, the quests, the lore, and the objectives have all been honed to a fine point in the Ravenloft setting for literally decades.
They may as well have had the Hickmans holding their hands and telling them what Special Rockstarz they were through the whole process.
All they had to do was make a few "Barovia-appropriate" mobs and do some new weapon/armour art, an area in which they continue to excel (despite an antiquated game-engine and failing at damned near every other aspect of game design).

People playing DDO? People with an ear-to-the-ground on the MMO genre in general?
DDO has its (ugly, glaring) faults, but it does have some strong points, or we wouldn't still be playing the game.
Or here griping about it.
