I haven't played in a long time but nothing there is blowing my mind. Certainly enough to warrant making sure you use your free gold rolls but is any of that worth blowing shards?

Don't knock it till you tried it.  Gold rolls have a 10% chance of giving you some good shit.  That's better than your drop rates in most quests, so it makes it a better ROI than rerolling chests. 

I got a +7 wisdom tome from a gold roll yesterday. 

Plus, it's your only access to the Named Loot pots that  can get you a +15% on the named item drop rate.   So, use the 15000 shards to get a few of those and then use it on rerolls when one of those pots are running and the odds are in your favor.

The new named item pots were unique to the rolls.   Got two of those (the +5% version, not the soverign +15% version)

I got the Thinking Cap.  I think that is unique to the gold roll.   (or a community hand out),  It came with a 1000 sentient XP stone, too.  (What's that? the equivalent of 2 or 3 named epic named items?)

Then I got some stuff that is pretty expensive for TP : +7 Wis Tome, +3 Tome of Fate, +2 to # Tome of Fate Upgrade, Epic Heart of Wood, A sov Pot I (3 hour version).  That's about 4-5k in TP worth of stuff.

I've gotten numerous +15 MP, RP, USP pots.  (These are OK.  Not great, but I prefer them to Fire Shield Pots or Heroism Pots_I have stacks and stacks of those at this point)

I've gotten some cosmetic armors and a pet, which I might not have paid for, but are nice to have.   (Although they tie up inventory space on a mule).

That plus a bunch of stones I can use for TR's to speed past level 1 and 2.   I prefer to start at level 3 with TR's.   So it all works out well for me.   I like the rolls now.  I have plenty of shards and they are easy to get.

this is my issue, its saturated with crap, and you even note that this could be true in your own post. shards have some kind of conversion rate to money, regardless of how infinitesimal it might be. meanwhile, there's like 3 items in roll tables that also share this level of value through rarity. the only people who should be spending shards on gold rolls or being encouraged to do so, are ones who actively want to test the system like you or i did. we will obtain satisfaction from every roll because they are serving our purpose. but to encourage anyone not autistic enough to care about math and experience to use shards to get a bunch of garbage they dont need or already acquired, thats just malicious.
