I’m still sexy dexy thot(and do not take E. Reflex).  Tempest tree naturally just pushes toward DEX.
STR tempests still need Dex pts/gear.
While DEX does not need Str pts/gear at all, leaving more room for optimization of other stuffs. (Yes, it is embarrassing for casters to have higher Str and sometimes need help opening doors ) But that’s why I play a thot!

However, I do like that base Sharn gear is universal for STR or DEX, just craft to your ability.
Both are viable, you can’t go wrong with either.

You don't give up any Tempest enhancements. You lose everything in DWS including Killer, 4 SA dice, Merciful Strike, Exposing Strike and +1 crit threat.

What you get: +2 dmg against favored enemies, +1 Dire Charge DC and dmg compared to STR (but -3 to hit).  Frees up AP to go T4 racial without being a racial completionist, +50% fort bypass for everyone, +30% helpless damage, and two mediocre 3[W] attacks.  You also don't need to swap items for your trance effect, and you have +122 Will save as an Aasimar outside of reaper.  Grats on saving against THTH evil damage.  Yay?

Most the power in a Tempest is in Tempest, Stalker and Harper just make it great. Falconry isn't great but it has some fun stuff its like turning a Ranger into a Monk (lmfao hear comes another questioning of my mental state) adding tricks for locking down/hindering targets.

It also gets a lot bigger burst out of Aasimar healing outside reaper is in the ~4k ranger ~200 in R10.

Not the best Ranger build but still a Tempest build worth doing as something interesting and different.

I prefer Wisdom.

Wisdom allows you to use any weapon you want and get full damage, including ranged, so you can make use of manyshot when a mob is out of range.  The focus on Wisdom boosts your Aasimar/Scourge lay on hands to massive levels. 

I honestly think that people who talk down the bird strikes either haven't tried them or don't know how they work.  Two, ranged, helpless inducing "stuns" that also erase 50% of any targets fort? The stuns work on nearly anything from undead to golems.  The helpless inducing blind works on reapers. Falconer also gives an extra favored enemy which is huge.

The best race right now is a wisdom race (Aasimar/Scourge).  You gain similar prr increases and more HP in Falconer (5% bonus). All that and you can still get Exposing Strike?   That seems like the clear winner to me.

Finally, Killer is meh.  20% doublestrike that you have to build up that is worthless on long boss fights and also worthless whenever you hit A Thousand Cuts as you will be over the doublestrike cap. Merciful Strike is good I guess, but really not that amazing. Granted, the crit range loss is real.

I will say you do lose some reflex save versus a Dex build and some effectiveness of elaborate parry but the limited weapons choices kills that for me.  Still on a Wis build it's pretty easy to get your Dex up high too.  No need to worry about int or str at all.

As far as weapons, based on feedback from here my current setup for Dex  is Flow and Nightshard for trash, and I switch out Nightshard to Dust for boss fights (with swapping suffering in every 10 seconds or so for 1-2 hits).  Grinding out Nemesis for the Scimitar, and thinking at that point I put that also on offhand but keep that on and swap dust in.  Is that about right for what I want to do for Dex setup?

If I went to Str.. what’s currently recommended?  (And how’s the ‘Untold’ THTH battle axe as a weapon option with Knights Training and weapon options on a Str build?)

Glass Shards isn't bugged -- it was nerfed in 2018 the same time monks were.  It used to tick even when applying stacks with Spite.

Use Fractured Elegance over Nightshard because it's +1[W] higher when fully upgraded.

Wis: Take Knight's Training and swing 2x Night Beacon, Soulrazor+Whelm, or Flow+whatever for CC.
