I like that THF is still mediocre, and all of the good things in Barbarian for example are dependent on how often you hit and that the only builds to excel with THF are wolves who circumvent the crippling downside to THF while retaining all of the good stuff.

No, let's be real. THF wolves aren't even that good. It's the outlier of Silvanus wolves. Wolf speed alone doesn't make up for the crappy nature of THF.

Math is hard.  Consider a melee attack that deals 100 damage in r10.

Current: 100 * 0.091 (reaper dmg reduction) * 1.5 (helpless base) * 1.5 (combat brute) = 20.475 dmg.
New: 100 * 0.154 (reaper dmg reduction) * 1.25 (helpless base)  * 1.2 (combat brute) = 23.1 dmg.

As an example, the multiplier at Reaper 10 for melee will change from 0.091 to 0.154 and for ranged and magic will change from a 0.076 multiplier to a 0.154 multiplier.

This will make taking down creatures with large hit point pools less of a slog at higher Reaper skulls. To be clear, the decrease to damage resistance scales with Reaper level – at lower Reaper levels the change to damage won’t be as noticeable.

If I understand it correct, there are going to be far less helpless mobs to do damage against.  If that's the case, it should be factored in...

Because math really is hard: Helpless is additive not multiplicative.

Current: 100 * .091 (reaper DR) * (1 + (.50 combat brute + .50 helpless base)) = 18.2
New: 100 * .154 (reaper DR) * (1 + (.20 combat brute + .25 helpless base)) = 22.33

22.33/18.2 = 22.6% dmg increase against helpless mobs, without considering Sense Weakness.  With Sense Weakness, it's a 28% dmg increase compared to current dmg. 

The Mass Hold Monster duration change (12->9.6 seconds in r10) nets a 20% shorter time window that a monster will be held.  Assume 10k DPS for ease of math.

Current: 10k DPS * .182 reaper helpless dmg scaling * 12 sec = 21840 dmg
New: 10k DPS * .2233 reaper helpless dmg scaling * 9.6 sec = 21436 dmg

Slightly less dmg output without Sense Weakness, and slightly more dmg with Sense Weakness.

ETA TLDR: There's a bunch of handwaving freakoutery over this change.

Not sure I follow. Even with the +4 saves vs spells in reaper, there's a net gain in DCs from the Magister changes.

They reduced helpless damage by 17%.
1.25/1.5

If you have Combat Brute, it was a 33% reduction if you have combat brute
(1.25*1.2) / (1.5*1.5)

Was my thought exactly when I saw that.

They're like..."mobs are getting CCed too much we don't like that, give them more saves"

But also "oh we realize caster destinies are not giving enough DC bonuses so let's add some"

Same shit in the end.

Might hurt more in heroics though but honestly have no idea how far beyond mob saves my DCs are on my Sorc.

Blood Red. Fixed the math for both of you. Helpless trash DPS is getting a huge boost in R10. It's getting nerfed in heroics though. Poor heroic monks, no lube every single balance patch, and they sucked compared to warlocks to start with.

Cripey's Merciless Bloodbath: 100 * 0.154 (reaper dmg reduction) * 2.55 (helpless 25% base + 30% sense weakness + 5% ship +15% set +60% No Mercyx6 +20%HOrc) = 39.3

Caster dps is going up about the same amount.

Current: 100 Caster DPS * .076 R10 * 1.5 = 11.4

New: 100 Caster DPS * .154 New R10 * 0.85 (extra saves) * 1.25 (new helpless) = 16.36

The people that they are actually targeting to nerf are the heroic low reaper monks, melee bards, melee clerics, and melee FvS and their splashes. Those people are losing hp, losing damage, losing DC not made up since they don't have magistar yet, and making less xp per reaper streaked dungeon. While they do get to be 2 lvls higher, melee dps doesn't scale like casters in heroics, so it won't matter much.

Ramged builds, which were clearly needing a buff, also are getting the lesser Reaper damage reduction, the same as caster damage.
