Questions about bear

I want to make a bear tank, that can also dps when not needed to tank. The new Bsword does 1.6x and is considered THF. But Bear using natural fighting and a THF weapon does 3x. And can't Strikethrough when on defensive fighting.

1) So while on bear, using Bsword the 3x will be applied instead of 1.6x right?

2) And to have Strikethrough I can still use the Bsword but just have to drop from defensive fighting?

3) Also, 20 bear or 11 barb 8 bear 1 wiz for tanking?

Why are you suggesting someone who is EDF can't Strikethrough? Did I miss something?

From release notes:

Druid's Wild Shape: Bear now allows you to Strikethrough as long as you are not in the Defensive Fighting stance. (This replaces its previous ability to use Glancing Blows). You can Strikethrough while moving in Bear Form.

I understand it is specific to the bear defensive stance, not the Epic defensive feat that we get at lvl 21. But not sure.

Maybe the Nature's Defense stance from the Nature's Protector tree?

@Techno, Yes
@DnD, that was their intentions when introducing both bear and wolf forms to druid. Jack of all trades doesn't work in the type of content you want it to, so obviously you'll need some sort of compromise; In wolf, you're giving up plenty AP for your bear stance to be meaningful, and in bear, you're giving up beef for the damage.

Build either one animal form with gear swaps in mind, and spec whatever is free into the other; hybrids fail at both. Which is more important to you - the tank or the damage?

It is an alt without too much investment that i can swap from Sentinel to Fury/LD if I want to solo R1.

So I suppose tanking raids on hard without too much issues. Not sure about the potential of bears as tanks, nobody was using them for anything, so I don't know about elite/R1.

This is what i am thinking:

Bear
Druid 20
True Neutral Human

I'm pretty sure you don't get credit for shield feats (SM / ISM) while you're in animal form.

I don't know, this is what wiki says:

- Stat bonuses, skill bonuses, stunning, etc. apply from both hands.
- AC and other bonuses from any shield you may be using apply (although you can't shield bash).

Also, I need the feats to get the enhancements on Sentinel

Bastard sword does not get stat bonuses as a bear just an FYI. Or atleast it didn't seem to be doing such.

Its typed for 2handed weapons specifically it seems. Kind of makes sense as 3x for using a greatsword or whatever is more logical than b-sword magically getting 3x while in bear form.

That being said don't play in Fury. None of furry works with bear save adrenaline. I asked if this would be changed and Steelstar pretty much made it clear it's not happening.

To make matters worse for you every enhancement that boosts strikethrough requires you to have the basic THF feat. So you've got an automatic feat tax of 4 just to get your strikethrough bonuses if you're say half-orc or barbarian splashed.

TBH this bear thing is all messed up. I think it should be easier to build a char without having to resort to so much research  Cheesy
