This is why there are no pre-order bonuses - I too missed the MOTU mask and now there is no way to get it. But when I came back to DDO after a hiatus and bought Ravenloft and Sharn bundles I got all the goodies.
That said, there is no need to pre-order. I am in wait & watch mode as it might not be released on November but defo buying it just for the soulforged augment system. Loot doesn't look great though but more options to get out of this Sharn gear if you want to do so (melee set bonus is still to be sorted - Lynn messed it up as usual and had to be pointed out).
TLDR: No need to pre-order.
I think that they take a lot of crap about people not being able to get the Black Panther hireling anymore. But they are stuck in a box. If they release it some other way, people who paid for the expansion under the understanding it was an exclusive pre-order only item will be pissed. If they don't, then other people will be pissed.
I think if they do pre-order, they need to do something like:
Pre-order contains a buff that gives you:
Daily gold rolls until the release.
10% more experience until the release
+5% chance at named items in chests until the release.
Stuff like that. Things that are only usable in the pre-order phase and expire when it goes into general release.
To be clear: I'm fine with there being pre-order permanent items like the hireling or a cosmetic or a boarding pass/bottle of mist/whatever. But I see where it does cause some issues down the road for some segment of players.
