So I am testing out a bunch of ED’s and decided to test “Brace for Impact” in the Unyielding Sentinel ED tree and found out that the +40% fortification is actually just +40 fortification points added on as far as the character panel reads.  Is this an old problem or typo that I am just figuring out the hard way?

Its the problem that you dont understand how the somewhat confusing system of % for different attributes works in DDO Cheesy

Your right, I don’t understand the way ddo percentages work. I just assumed that I was going to see my number go up by 40%. So I did 240x1.4=336.  But I thought it was broken when it was 40 points instead of 40 percent and that it was just another mis-worded Description or something.  Which I didn’t feel was so farfetched.

Could you explain or link a page so I can learn me up some DDO math?  Tip of the ice burg here I’m sure.  At least you responded in my favorite way.  Gunna look it up but I expect more out of you, like actual answers and links and stuff..

40% = 40.

If you have 100 fortification you have 100% fortification.

Not sure how this one's stumping you to be honest. The system originally went to a flat 100, now the value can go over a 100 and some mobs have bypass just like us players. 100 fortification means in theory you're protected from crits 100% of the time. So in the case of Brace for Impact, you're getting an additional 40% or 40 to the value you have. You can't make this fractional or multiplicative; as 40% of 0 is still 0.

Similarly this sort of wording used to be used for heal amp all of the time. Now we use a flat number to represent heal amp instead of percentages.

That makes sense.  You’re right, the fact that it went over 100% is misleading.  But you explaining this gave me the rest of the information I didn’t have or experience having been away From the game for so long.  I left when Minos legens was the shit and you strived for 100% fortification.  I mean why do you need more, is what I thought then, (Insert patronizing math explanations here). But, I didn’t consider mobs having abilities to negate that and therefor leading to the requirement of surpassing the 100% so you can try and remain at 100 when debuffed.  I couldn’t find anywhere that listed that it was always based on the 100 and not based off of what number you currently have.

I appreciate your sarcasm and lessons.  I have a lot of catching up to do so I’ll take it how I can get it.   Sooo what other attributes work this way?  And where is the game mechanic lexicon hidden?  Or maybe it’s lost?  And Maybe that is why we have the imperfect partially broken game we love?

To be honest, percentage is a function of scale. Honestly.

If 400% fort is high end, 40 fort would be 10%, except in DDO where up is down and ladders are weird.

These sentiments pretty much explain how I feel. I don’t attack problems in this game with logic because that’s not the rules here.  I kind of like it in a way.  But also hate it in the equal amount.  Like any good healthy relationship.

And you came to the wrong place, too. Here we don't deal in logic or illogicality. We deal in insults and stupidity.

All things I embrace.  I'm not bitching or complaining. I took my lashings and asked for more.  That was more enlightening than anywhere else I looked.  So I'm not gunna complain about the delivery.
