At the risk of sounding like the moron I am, can I ask a question to those in the know: 15 years, better servers, better customer computers, much much smaller online population, better online speeds all using the same engine as before... so why more lag, and is all the technobabble SSG putting out just dazzling bullshit?
And I know this will make me sound like a moron.. again, but when I run my 10 and 15 year old games on my current computers they run friggen amazing, so what am I missing?
I have a friend who is also a system designer and he plays DDO and asked him the same question. Since I'm not in the coding field he simply explained to me this:
When you keep building code on top of another code (even worse if the previous code is made by someone else), on top of another code (and even this was made by someone else) and so on, you increase the entropy of a system. Keep in mind that DDO is a 15 year old game and bam, there goes your performance.
Those were his words (more or less). He still raised some doubts on how some things were handled in DDO and is not a fan of the devs, especially Lynn and Steel since he likes to brwose the mobo for their comments. He's a good guy, don't know why he never made an account here on though (or did he?)
