It was changed, since thats not part of the humor, no big deal, and everyones gotten all worked up... so ...

You're getting shit and taking it badly - you fail, and are possibly French.

I'm still bitter I missed it.  Anything that fired up the Vault denizens enough to force the OP to edit a post and prompt Strake to post in his Official Voice must have been pretty good.

In today's society we can say certain things to convey thoughts without much issues. There are a couple of words, that when used in any context, can cause misunderstanding and hurt that doesn't get repaired easily. We have seen how this type of communication can cause problems elsewhere (ie Bigole). I do not want this to happen here. We, as a community, can draw some lines ourselves. I want to continue posting here. That particular word is offensive enough to me, that I would discontinue my association with this forum should it be allowed and tolerated. Whatever any of you might say about our Foecleaver friends, they made the same stand. It is a stand of bravery.

And you all can suck my wang.

I disagree.

There are very few words, when used in the right context, that do not have the power to cause misunderstanding and hurt that doesn't get repaired easily.

There are even fewer words that do not have any legitimate context.  This one, in particular, still sees plenty of use every day by millions who feel it has the ability to be used in a way that does not cause misunderstanding/hurt.

This is not to say that Harkins' use of the N-word was appropriate... I doubt it was.  But to say there aren't legitimate uses of the word is just foolish.  I'll provide an example that I'm guessing you are familiar with:

In a court of law, it is important to capture and reiterate the exact words used at some crime scenes.  When repeating something that is said, a lawyer does not say "N-word", they repeat the quote verbatim (at least in my experience... I obviously haven't attended every hearing in every courtroom across the country).  Given that someone's freedom may depend on ensuring that there is no confusion about what was said at the time in question, I think this, without question, a legitimate context in which that word, or any word, should be used.

Edit: as to my experience, one of the hardest things I've ever had to do was stifle my laughter in a courtroom when a very polite, small-statured, and soft-spoken lawyer repeated racial epithets and undeniably course language, including several fucks and c-words.  It was incredibly awkward and awesome at the same time, for everyone in the courtroom.

This is true, however the word "sarcasm" can be spelled correctly.

Any context could be extreme on my part, but in a court of law you are merely repeating things that have been said for accuracy. In truth they do not have meaning at all, other than to be a fact.

I think that in some circles it is acceptable to use this word. Unfortunately, I do not feel that I belong to those circles.

edit to add - I support Harkins right to use that word. I would hope that my right to attempt a exclude it from my everyday life is supported. I might be naive, but I feel it has no place here.

Cheesy I was recently in a jury for a drug traffic/distribution charge, and even though i didnt hear any verbatim like this, I still got a nice laugh, inserting your experience into my recollection Tongue

"Is it needed?" is probably the best question.

Not more than two months ago we took a stand, as a group, against one person in game that used language like this. I suddenly feel hypocritical, sad, and somewhat ashamed.

someone pretty accurate/wise told me :

"You don't really believe in freedom of speech until you're willing to defend someone saying something that offends you to the core of your being. "

Did someone else use ***** wrong or something a while back?

Supporting your right to say it and wanting to hear you say it are different. Yes, there was a whole bunch of drama about it.
