Did they recently change this quest?  I wasn't able to land on the chandelier to get the puzzle solution and mobs never stopped instantly respawning in the room with him.  Been a year since I ran it last, so while my memory is foggy, I feel I'd remember these tidbits.

If by recently you mean about 2 years ago then yes, they changed it.

Hell I think they changed it when the cap was still 16. And on elite, the mobs have always constantly respawned.

Greaaaaaaat, I'm senile.  I remember the ones at the tile puzzle, and the roamers, but I'll be danged I do not remember them ever respawning in Syn's room.

One of the very few I haven't managed solo on elite on my arcane. You pretty much have to be able to instantly mentally solve it when you get a quick peek at it as you kite the boss up the ramps, then be able to fall down and solve it in the 5 seconds you have before getting bumrushed. As far as I can tell, anyway.

The devs changed it because they were butthurt that stealthy players were able to solo it.

It ain't much easier with 3 people.

So, making the quest take twice as long to finish compared to hard and for no real additional reward, still only 2 chests, and I can find WAY faster ways to make the same amount of XP for a few additional favor in a patron you've most likely already capped.

You forgot the seriously effed up respawn after you kill Sannyasi nonsense as well.

Oh, there's not much that isn't easier solo. Solo scaling on top of not having to worry about anyone else fucking things up? Yes please.

Sadly I don't see a valid solo strategy for Monastery unless you're MrCow and can solve the puzzle in 0.5 seconds. I can sit there and toss spells for 15 mins at the scorrow but his HP just constantly resets, and good luck doing the puzzle with 20 mobs running all over it unless they happen to randomly solve it for you. Really need a kiter.

Solving the puzzle is the easiest part.  What I hate is when you are going to solve the puzzle and someone else jumps onto it because they think they have the solution.

That's why after you loot the main chest you grease that room for the sacrifices while you safely recall in the side room.

I think this was the part that annoyed me most.  I ran around shooting everything while they opened the chests.  Then kited past the chests and looted.  I had to pop an air elemental for my buddies to get out and I used a scroll to teleport out.  No chance to trade runes really.  I pulled a resistance rune that I really didn't need =/.

Or when the rest of the party is just supposed to keep kiting sannyasi/killing trash and keeping it off the puzzle, and they can't do that.

And then the puzzle is unsolvable because everything keeps going after you because there is only one other person in the party who isn't a fuckwit.

Works well in coal chamber too,  grease the ledges behind you as you run past the mobs,  your party will understand.

I was able to solo this a couple of lives ago, but I was using a cleric hireling and an owlbear summons.  So not really soloing, I guess.  I set the cleric on "defend the owlbear".

I parked the two of them in the hallway to keep the hallway spawns from making it to the puzzle (scorpions), and then did my normal strategy of:

Run up top, wait until stuff is on top of me, and then float down to hit a few buttons before running back up to the top, before everything makes it back down to the bottom level.

Rinse and repeat until puzzle is solved.

I never thought of having hirelings keep the scorps busy, I usually wait till they get their slow asses moving as well.

Works better without feather fall.  More time to hit buttons.  Few times the mobs beat me to the bottom lol.
