I was mostly thinking about the pre-u9 lightning bolt and how much of a bitch it was to actually line up targets so that they'd all get hit. The dex requirement is pretty steep, and I didn't want to take it if it would be not working most of the time.

Looks like it's good though. Thanks all.

Quick question, to someone who plays any ranged characters at all - how valuable is IPS?

Two older quotes from the other forum as an answer to a ranged build without IPS:
"No IPS, no DPS."

"IPS is what makes ranged damage not suck."

Doing 1-3 lives like this before I go back to Ranger.

Keep in mind that for ranged damage, monk PL and ranger PL do not stack.

That's not opinion, that's science. And science is one cold hearted bitch with a 14 inch strap on.

Maybe. I always put more weight on dps against bosses than against trash, since it'll probably be Wailed by the time I get there anyway.

I'm going HElf. On a build that needs pretty much every stat except charisma, 16-17 dex is painful.

Yes, ranger damage overlaps monk damage.  3PL Monk/3PL Ranger gets +3 damage per melee attack and +6 ranged.  3PL Monk/1PL Ranger gets +3 damage for both ranged and melee.

That is my favorite tactic!  It's also preferable to let stainer beat an enemy down 85% of the way, then finger it.  It's funny as long as you remember to turn your volume down in your headset first!  Grin

Pretty sure that I've seen SS proof that monk PL and ranger PL stack for ranged damage for a total possible of +9.

I miss having an arcane at cap. It's not as funny on the receiving end.

Hmm.. I dunno.

I've got a monk that used to be a ranger, with one monk past life on him as well.  So 1 monk past life, 1 ranger past life.

When I equip a standard issue +3 repeating crossbow(vanilla no bunus bolts), I get +6 to the damage (from the inventory screen).  So +3 from the crossbow, +1 from the monk, and +2 from the ranger.

So it SEEMS like it's working, but I might have a bonus from elsewhere too.  I guess.

after finally getting some testing in today, incase anyone's wondering.

monk AA's are even more fun with a frozen tunic and an earth water alchemical bow.
