Depends on your provider.

Mine doesn't even like the hosts work around unless I break my settings to work around their proxy server.

If your provider requires you to go through a proxy change it.
Your provider is a fucking idiot without a clue.

How do I flush the DNS?

I'm at work and I don't want to wait for the ISP to update.

Well, could be a tripple post.

How do I flush the DNS?

I was on earlier, not sure why it changed in the last hours.  Looks like the problem occured and resolved before I went to lunch then when I came back, it was fucked up.

They're being way too nonchalant about this.  Would it kill them to laugh at themselves a bit?

FYI...  the record date just changed.

Domain Name: DDO.COM
   Registrar: NETWORK SOLUTIONS, LLC.
   Whois Server: whois.networksolutions.com
   Referral URL: http://www.networksolutions.com/en_US/
   Name Server: NS1.DNS.TURBINE.COM
   Name Server: NS2.DNS.TURBINE.COM
   Name Server: NS3.DNS.TURBINE.COM
   Status: clientTransferProhibited
   Updated Date: 16-jun-2012
   Creation Date: 15-jun-1995
   Expiration Date: 14-jun-2017

Yes, they have done this before.

Not to completely defend Turbine (because they fuck up a lot of stuff), but the registrars have done this numerous times. I have seen domains expire when they have been paid for as well as taken over by other people before the expiration.

I would suggest seeing if Stainer learned some new tricks  Cheesy.

To flush your local computer DNS, you would use ipconfig /flushdns

As stated, it takes awhile for the information to propagate over all the DNS systems. Pointing to one higher up the foodchain (such as google) which get the changes first will get you going faster.

The # is just to have comments after the line. You don't need it.

If you want something pre-loaded into cache, you put a #PRE in the LMHOSTS file for it (nbtstat -R will reload that) as long as your tcp/ip is set to do lookups against it.

As one of my security layers, I would use the hosts and lmhosts to preload known bad IPs to block for things such as worms  (as well as block certain country codes at my firewall for web redirectors).

Did the same and same results.

Not sure if it is because I'm on a network or not, either way, it's just fucked up.

Connection becomes substantially worse with the proxy disabled since the reason for it is compression/packaging of data bounced through a device with limited bandwidth that is situated in orbit around this wonderful planet.

Anyone with Vista there are some different steps

first locate the hosts file as previousely posted, select its properties and unclick read only.

Close, then open notepad as administrator

Then copy this into the file:
74.201.102.43 www.ddo.com
74.201.102.42 forums.ddo.com
74.201.102.13 gls.ddo.com
74.201.102.13 gls-auth.ddo.com
74.201.102.11 patch.ddo.com
74.201.102.11 serviceengine.turbine.com

select save as and file type select all files and voila

Wow, you love me. There has been two big lag fixes in the past week. No, those are not going out with a hotfix. They are more wide ranging and take more time to test.
Of course every time you get like this, I keep wondering where your MMO is so I can play it. Obviously you know excatly how to piece one of these together. I can't keep apologizing a gazillion times for the back end tech and things people did on this game before I was even an employee. So one last time, yes some of the stuff from the before times sucks. Sorry about that. Yes we know, stop building new systems. Yes we know, finish the ones out there. Yes we know you hate bards.

And screw you for bringing up the laid off folks. That sucks every time. I made sure all my people landed in other jobs real quick. None of my 'casualties' are unemployed, just sadly not employed by Turbine. Every business goes through this.Even Valve has layoffs. It sucks every time. If you haven't had to do it then you just don't know. Picking people and knowing you are about to turn their life upside down is terrible, every time.
Not giving a bleep. No, I stop listening when the bile starts. Not worth my sanity. You know my rule, treat me like a human and I'll do the same back. When the rage train starts...cya.
So here is my peace out of the vault for a while. Thanks for the list Ranger, that was actually clear and helpful.

This would be a good time to use a HOSTS exploit on DDO players.

I am not tech savvy, really. I mean, I can handle routine shit - but never done this kinda thing before. Anyone know how long it usually takes for a service provider to update ISP info?

This is annoying as hell.

Every time I start the launcher it updates, restarts, updates again, restarts, then I can log in normally.

Every single time the same routine Cheesy

I've had to restart a ton because my video card is in its death throes - it's not every time, at least not for me. Just every half hour or so.

Probably panic updates having to do with the DNS issues, or something.

Bro, I am retarded when it comes to tech stuff. But I followed the link and plugged in the stuff and was able to log in. After I was in (and I made a copy of the hosts file) I went back and deleted what I entered.

That way you are in, can play, surf boards, but doesn't interfere with your ISP when it decides to update. Hope that helps.

Up to 48 hours for records to propagate to all authoritative DNS servers.  Usually faster...  reboot or flush your DNS cache every few hours.
