I don't understand why they store all of this information on the client.  What's to keep someone from changing the shroud chest pointer to +4 tome instead of Large Bone?

Loot is generated server side, derp. Information is stored client side for various reasons, most likely performance.

I'm wondering myself. Not because you can change anything in game - you can't, everything happens on the server anyway - but it'd stop me from seeing it Wink The client is like a tv remote... you can't really alter anything.
But I guess the data is still there because some of it is actually used to display things before the game is fully loaded or sometimes to speed up things (like recently the list of cannith crafting recipes is no longer downloaded every time you click on a device etc.). I guess it's simply a lot of work to change something that works more or less fine for 6 years already when leaving it alone doesn't hurt too much. The same system is used not only in ddo but in lotro too, so any major changes to the game structure = lot of work to retain compatibility. I guess the data might be used for debug purposes too and for the GMs. Most likely all the GM functionality is inside the client and only requires proper login to access. But that's only guessing, I have no idea about real reasons.

And that's what I would have thought, all the decision making done on the server, but to have all of the chest information you've found on the client just seemed strange to me.

Like this?:

(note: there is a delay in getting character information from the server while running ddo in Wine/Linux, so this shows up everytime i log in for a couple of seconds)

I personally liked the story about how they ran out of condoms for the Olympic Village a full 5 days before the games ended.

Yeah that standing order of 100,000 condoms for the games after the 70,000 wasn't enough last time was pretty good.

Its still early.  Season one just ended.   I thought it was the highest rated show on Showcase.  It'll probably get picked up.   Sci-Fi will probably pick it up in the US too and that may end up killing the show after a season or two.l

'Fraid not, the medal table is based solely on golds, the loser medals don't count unless there's a tie.

China lead 36 to 34.

2008 China had 51 to your 36.

If you guys had known it was actually going to be close this year you could probably have saved everyone some tax $ and not bothered with the rocket.

UK is currently 3rd with 22, which is pretty damn fine IMO.

If the European teams were grouped together (God forbid). UK, France and Germany alone are on 37.

If you haven't guessed I live in London, and get 24/7 exposure to this stuff...

It's ok though because more track and field events are coming up where China has a total of 15 medals compared to the United States' 311 gold.

your dumb is showing.
Do research before running your internet mouth.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Olympic_medal_table#Medal_count_ranking

This difference in rankings has its origins in the early days of the Olympics, when the IOC did not publish or recognise medal tables.[1] Before 2008, the difference in ranking system received scant notice, since in recent Olympic history the country that led in total medals also led in the gold count. China and the U.S. bucked this trend at the 2008 Summer Olympics, topping the gold and total medal tallies respectively,[13] and a similar situation occurred at the 2010 Winter Olympics when Canada and the U.S. finished with the most gold medals and total medals respectively.[12] Other exceptions are the 1896, 1912 and 1964 Summer Olympics when the United States finished first in gold medal count but second in the overall medal count. In an August 24, 2008 news conference, IOC President Jacques Rogge confirmed that the IOC does not have a view on any particular ranking system.
