While I know that's PROBABLY going to be true, I will continue jamming pins in my little cordovan doll until I see otherwise(Ok, I'm NEVER going to stop jamming pins in my little cordovan doll....)

GS2 has nothing to do with me, so why stick pins in me?
I deal with community, not games development.

They are not sticking pins in 'you. 'You, are not Cordo.

Have you tried a lower difficulty, such as the official forums?

True, we know Cordo is playing (badly) with the Mattyboy account.

Short sightedness and a lack of understanding has been killing this game since MOTU.

Yes. This game has gone completely into the toilet since MotU. It all started with the fucking "voting" concept the devs did during forum discussions leading up to MotU.

A developer is theoretically paid due to his ability to do design. Letting random people on the internet vote on the game direction got Turbine the shit that it has today.

Whoever thought that letting Axer, Quahlor, Fran and other associated idiots decide game direction was a good idea needs to find another career. Hopefully, that happened in one of the 2 announced layoffs.

You know what the sad part is? "Game Designer" is the most under-appreciated, shitty job on the planet, and I say that as a guy who works in customer service! It sucks because if you're a designer, your job is hard

Since you are only smart enough to land a customer service gig, I'll cut you some slack for saying some of the stupidest things I have ever seen on the Vault.

In any real software job, the asshats who somehow got to be game devs for Turbine would get their asses fired in a couple of months. Just look at the shit they do

1) Radically alter systems they don't even vaguely understand.

2) Release updates with no real testing, except by customers.

3) Ignore reports made by customers on Lammania of game breaking bugs (e.g. duping).

4) Treat their customers with open contempt, unless the customers are fawning idiots (e.g. fanbois).

OK, it is the internet. Customers will say mean things about you (especially if you are really good at 1), 2), 3) and 4)). Boo hoo. If a real software engineer fucks up a major customer's system, he'll certainly hear "mean things" too.

I think Severlin is the worst producer for basically coming to game, making big changes across the board without any knowledge

Yes, without a doubt.

Either way, the game's fucked irreparably at this point.

Yes. The people blathering "it will be fine once we get an endgame" are idiots. There won't be any meaningful number of people left to play this mythical end game.

The entire Champions experiment showed just how fractured the customer base is at this point. I doubt that there is anything meaningful that could be done to change game play that won't piss off too many customers. The game is what it is. Turbine has painted themselves into this corner, and there is no way out. When you break a product this badly, there really is only one recovery plan: create a new product.

Family, Country, and the US stock market. Although, in a pinch, any convertible currency or liquid asset will do.

It hurts me that you would say that, but let me elaborate a little bit more:

"Game designer" is NOT the same thing as "Game Programmer". Unless they transferred in from the programing side(which does happen). In the case of a designer who didn't transition from code, they will probably not know any code at all(besides the semester of C they took 10 years ago in college).

This is actually a major part of the disconnect: designers have to communicate concepts and ideas to coders, when the designer has no idea how to actually implement it in code:

This leads to huge problems when the designers promise the users things that the coders cannot possibly deliver.

There's similar disconnects all over the place. The same example goes other ways, as coders have to try to explain to designers what the hell is wrong with them(you sound like you've done some coding, so you probably know how that works).

I know a bit from my own design work(albeit at a hobbyist level), I love brainstorming, but its tough when the people you have to bounce ideas off of get horrible, impossibly stupid ideas(my favorite: we were working on a UT2004 level(this was A WHILE ago...) and one of my friends commented that "wouldn't it be cool if we could just take the truck out of this Wolfenstein Enemy Territory level to put in our level" and I just could not find the words to tell him how stupid he was...)

Same disconnect with artists: making game art(the thing I've actually had the most experience with) is difficult and tedious, and building models FOR GAME ENGINES is an entire discipline in and of itself(if you hear someone muttering "Illegal polys, fuck 'em all" that's probably what they are doing).

Anyway, all that aside, being a designer is shitty because you have to live in a world where every single person you come into contact with thinks they could do your job better than you. Now, to be fair, in the case of DDO's designers, that's probably true; but try to picture it.

You're doing your job(maybe it is something complex like coding) and the new flunky from Human Resources drops by and starts giving you tips on memory pointers(pointers to pointers, as it were). Now imagine he's also giving you TERRIBLE suggestions. That's what its like to be a game designer.

Everyone wants your job. Everyone thinks they can do your job better. A lot of those people are wrong about it.

So, yeah, I amy "only" be smart enough to land a customer service gig, but hey, at least nobody else wants my job Tongue

I'll never understand the propensity of people to brag about being good at a video game. Its a toy you play with for fun. The only person who should be proud of you is your mother. If you're 3.
