I was hoping for more iconics. That doesn't seem like it would be as big of an investment to do than new classes.
Dwarf barbarian, elf ranger, halfling whatever.
Oh well, I guess my newly tr'd completionist will be forced to play through a life that seems uninteresting. I hope I am wrong. Yeah, I'm sure Turbine will do this right.
Iconics were a good idea that was hashed up.
In other words, typical Turdbine.
To my mind, Iconics were intended to be a short circuit/stepping stone into high level content for players like Fail who are skilled in other games, and aren't interested in trying to catch up on the grind to 15. They just want to play some decent content without hand holding and decide if they like the game or not. Once they TR, they can go back and experience the low level stuff I guess.
They had great potential, even for us vets. I can create a toon at any level between 1-15. So I can join and play with guildies and friends at short notice.
The gear isn't great, but it is workable.
The shortcomings were.
1. The balance. Everything but Bladeforged is junk. BF were/are overpowered.
2. The fixed class. I understand the concept - it ain't an iconic if you can just change the classes. The problem is the race/class combos were quite restrictive and in one case, stupid (sun elf INT based Cleric?).
3. The pre chosen paths are appalling. What they needed was to get some player advice what a lvl 15 Pally should look like, make three paths (eg. THF, TWF, S&B) and let player's choose. At least choose feats that are useful. Give the option to have enhancements done as well. This allows for both a fast play or semi-customised option.
4. The gear was a little mediocre. Given it is all BTC and unsellable, surely they could have given +6 to primary stats? It all just reeks of someone who doesn't play the game much and know what is about right.
If they had that versatility, they could have locked Iconics in as pure class lvl 15's.
But the cynics can now argue, they made it the way they did to further store sales of +1 heart, and sell lots of BF etc.
It's like when they create stuff at Turdbine, they just jumbled random shit together until it stays in a pile, call it done and sell it.
The Iconics concept was good in that it allowed new players to experience high level play. The downside is that on their own, they would get decimated as they don't understand any of the systems or mechanics.
But it did give the option for experienced players to bring friends and guildies along on higher level quests to hopefully get the bug to play a little longer.
Now, I like the versatility of having lvl 15 bank toons that can go get their own Coin Lords and Kundarak Favor.
