I tried out GW2 and WoW... I came back to DDO despite the fact that it's a sinking ship. By "sinking" I mean it's 80% submerged and the 20% that's left is just the galley holding a small group of drunken sailors who know they are dead any minute but don't care.

It's Diablo not FRP, but they've done an excellent job with it. They have only 7 classes and no picking the looks, but allow a huge range of customizations through their dual "skill" mechanisms.

It's made by a group of gamer friends who decided they were not happy with the current gaming offerings, so they made their own. They are not at all P2W, you can buy cosmetic items and extra bank space, but nothing that gives a serious edge. Their philosophy is if they make a great game, the fans will support it to keep it live, and it's really worked well for them. I've dropped a few hundred $ into it, and don't regret a penny.

Lag has been a problem, but they just came out with a major overhaul to the engine to address it, though the last couple of weeks real life has been crazy and I haven't had much time for gaming (plus I blew my CPU cooling fan and have been stuck in 2 weeks of delayed shipping and wrong part hell) so I haven't tried it yet  Angry

But if Grinding Gear Games ever came out with a cooperative FRP game, I'd be on the kickstarter the first day and probably never play DDO again after it went live.

Turdbin, keep changing the DDO rules, because McDonalds sold over 200 billion hamburgers by changing the recipe for their Special Sauce every couple of months to keep interest up.

Not if you live in NZ Cheesy

Skills are slotted in weapons/gear, and gain experience along with your character.

There is no gold per say; currency is consumables that apply upgrades to your gear; ie. Recolouring the slots in your gear, adding slots or chaining slots together etc.
Imo, the best way to describe POE:

It's the real successor to diabolo 2 for graphics and game play,  with a character progression system  from FFX's sphere grid.

Yeah, I bet playing local must completely rock. I live within a few hundred miles of Turdbin and half the globe away from GGG, and the lag in DDO bothers me a lot more than it does in PoE. They do a much better job of making sure your commands are delayed not lost or wasted. I may not be able to see what is happening during a lag spike, but I know the timing and can get off my skills and potions and make it through OK.

One other warning, though, it can be pretty bloody. My wife and kids can't stand the last mission with Piety.

If you liked Diablo 2 and didn't burn out on it, you'll enjoy PoE.

I think it's good, but it's catered towards my tastes and I don't have lag issues.

It is F2P, and no PTW. Seriously, you cannot even buy a 5% xp potion last I checked. It is all cosmetic outside of some bank space.

I enjoy it, it is exactly how Munk described it:

The lag isn't even that bad. Better then Diablo 3 back when it was heavily populated and I was making money off their item cash shop.
