Heroics aren't hard enough that you have to play the best anything. Especially since as a new player you won't even be able to unlock elite the first time through a quest.

Druid is the coolest hybrid.

Bard is the most powerful.

Arti is close behind in heroics.

As long as you get Maximize + Empower feats, you will do fine.

18wiz/2rog. warforged. Make sure you have insightful reflexes, max out int, go harper for mp, spell focus enchantment. Not an EE build, will lack spell pen from past lives, but on EN and some EH very fun. Q staff. Run in LD when you get to it. Mass hold, action boost haste/damage, cleave cleave, move on. Meteor swarm to mop up the survivors.

Melee/Caster.. Why has no one said Int based warlock with harper int to hit/dmg... is it uber melee, no.. but you get to spellcast while smacking things, and its all part of the class

Warlock.. warlock does EE just fine, pure 20 warlock.. can even melee by throwing your blast into an aura, do a couple aura bursts between swings..

I would just go full caster. Hybrids are not very good, even worse after all the nerfs.  Post update, I am doing:

20 warlock or 18/2 X
39 in SE (eldritch wave, SLAs and +spell crit)
8-10 TS (utterdark + crit damage)
31 ES (+6d6 light damage and aura mostly)

I don't think it works out very well tho.  The aura adds maybe a few hundred deeps.  And then you're just a really weak melee with no multipliers.  There's also a switching delay between burst/blast and melee, and I wouldn't be suprised at all if melees could do more damage with normal cleaves.

I've been running warlock at cap for quite a while now.  You can solo end game EEs still wearing heroic gear.  This game is not that hard, check some of my old posts in the achievement section - I'm not uber, but definitely not terrible. 

The thing is, the numbers you're talking about are just not that high.  Top end melee are doing 5K+ sustainable dps.  Actually, that was several updates ago, so it's probably much higher now. 

As for warlock, eldritch wave is literally 3x to 4x the damage of spirit blast.  So for a max dps build, you're looking at at least 32 in soul eater (although you probably want at least 37 for +8% crit and more damage dice on your SLAs).  And then if you want aura, you need at least 31 in ES and 8 TS for utterdark. 

You simply have no room to invest in harper.  And if you do, you either give up aura or lots of dps from soul eater, which defeats the whole purpose. 

Also, by using a melee weapon and not proper caster weapons, you're giving up spellpower and/or crits and probably losing another 5-10% of your dps. 

There really is just no point to a hybrid after Turbine's double nerf to ES and TS without even touching soul eater.  (And also an undocumented buff to soul eater).
