I recently found that they changed rage to provide +1 threat, this combined with gnome light pick threat range led me to the following conclusions about critical threat range.

light pick, 20x4
-> gnome, 19-20/x4
-> rage, 18-20/x4
-> imp crit, 17-20/x4

19-20 +1 bonuses:
overwhelming critical
legendary dreadnaught
frenzied berserker (x3)

result:
17-18/x4
19-20/x9

• Crit multiplier of the build: 2.1
  Crit multiplier of the build as human: 1.95
  Crit multiplier of the build with human khopeshes: 2
  Tempest scimitar multiplier: 1.9
  Tempest khopesh multiplier: 1.95

Yea, you so need to dupe ingredients to craft 2 weapons with +15/+7. Also in what possible scenario are you ever fighting something in this game for a solid 2 minutes? Button mashing? Really?

As for why/how it does more damage, it's a bit too much of the little things, but in the end it is all personal preference. I like having an extra +15 ish to hit and dc's of tactical feats.  In comparison to actual dps if you hit everytime sans a 1, I was always getting faster times unless the mob has some serious fortification. There's too much little stuff and nitpicking to give a solid definitive answer.  Play what you will though, both versions are well-rounded.
