so im not currently using a gaming keyboard and i have the madcatz MMO7 mouse and i love it but it needs replaced.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826201009

i wanna know if anyone knows of anything comparable to the mmo7 that might be better or close but cheaper. im also looking for recommendations on a keyboard, i was looking at the strike 7, it looks awesome but has poor reviews on newegg and better reviews elsewhere. nothing else iv seen comes close to what this keyboard claims to do.

http://www.madcatz.com/keyboards/strike7.php

thoughts and recommendations?

I just use a "normal" keyboard.  Logitech gaming mouse made a huge difference being able to shortcut the f keys to the array of buttons on the side.  AHK for a few things for the extra buttons works nice for often sequenced actions.

G600.  Has 12 on the thumb side, clickable scroll wheel, three finher buttons, two more buttons umder/next to scroll wheel. $40 ish.  Recommend choosing wired mouse for gaming.

I use a Razer Naga Epic. 12 side buttons makes playing DDO much easier. I can easily press #s 1-6, which is more than enough for me. As far as keyboards, I'm a bit of a mechanical junkie with that stuff. I vastly prefer full sized to tenkeyless or planck. Any $5 keyboard from amazon will do, though.

I use a Ducky Shine 3 with mx cherry browns as my main keyboard, and it's great, but the soldier has come undone from some of the leds - apparently it's an issue with that model specifically.

I'd avoid the Mad Catz brand.

I second the razer naga. You can set macros that trigger from the mouse. I believe it has 12 on the left thumb and 3 buttons on the scroll bar, with 2 under the scroll bar. I set macros to the scroll clicks and the other 2 buttons.

Corsair has a comprable mouse.

Once you get used to it you can que a whole hotbar off the mouse.
Set Caps Lock to a modifier key and you get 2 bars on  your right hand.

Assign other things to a standard number pad with an additional modifier bar assigned to the number pad.

You could even go with another modifier to make it 6 bars triggered with hot keys.

I use a Naga Razer mouse.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA4RE4AB0871&ignorebbr=1&nm_mc...

and a Naga Blackwidow keyboard, although, honestly, the keyboard isn't really that big a deal.  A good mouse is worth its weight in gold.

What i think of when i hear people saying they play with Razer peripherals.

Corsair all the way.
RAM is Corsair (vengeance something), Keyb is Corsair (K70), mouse is Corsair (Vengeance M90) and tomorrow my new headset will be corsair (VOID).
Never failed me. Their quality is sooo spot on for the price.

Razer though, that shit breaks like a twig and their software is sooo buggy.
Had 3 mouses and a headset, they all broke because i wasn't overly careful?

my experiences with the razer naga were disappointing when i learned that the 12 buttons on the side were really just mouse 4 and 5, and then controlled by a switch, the other 10 are 0-9 on the numpad or top row. i didnt need duplicate buttons i wanted 12 extra buttons.

go logitech for everything unless you are MLG- the fact that you are asking other people what to get means you ARE the demographic for logitech products. you wont be disappointed as long as you spend an appropriate amount. i say this having used every option mentioned in this thread and far many others not yet offered- except mad catz that shit is shit.

I use a Razor Chroma with 2 buttons on the side and a Logitech G13 Programmable gamepad.

I only use the keyboard for a typing in chat.

The G13 can be positioned in a more ergonomic way to reduce wrist and elbow fatigue/wear.

Razer synapse can reassign all those keys.

Seconded.

Logitech may not be the fanciest, but it gets the job done reliably and comfortably.

G710 Plus keyboard - decent mechanical switches and programmable macro keys.  Great keyboard for extended periods of typing without the *clacky* noise like many of the mechanical ones have.
http://gaming.logitech.com/en-us/product/g710plus-mechanical-gaming-keyboard

G502 Proteus Spectrum mouse - Very accurate, very comfortable, love the scroll wheel, a couple of extra buttons.  Best mouse I've ever owned.
http://gaming.logitech.com/en-us/product/g502-proteus-spectrum-rgb-gaming-mouse

G600 MMO Gaming Mouse - Haven't personally used but have seen good reviews on it if you want a mouse with LOTS of buttons

got a Razer Blackwidow just because I tend to destroy the "cup" soft keyboards rather quickly...
( so basically instead of having to replace my keyboard every year or so I bought one with switches, that will last way longer )

as for the mouse, I stick to my good old Logitech M560.

The MMO mice with the 12 buttons on the side are pretty useful for ddo, I used a logitech one for a long time, just recently got the Roccat Nyth which is very nice, but I am not convinced it's worth the extra money unless you got it to burn.  I have a corsair K70 keyboard, also nice but not that different from a regular keyboard (it has no macros)

The text string "gaming" costs on average $100 in most marketing departments.

while im sure there are other features to my board, some of the more memorable ones to me:

using logitech for keys and mouse allows me to use one program that is designed to work with multiple components and control the settings of either peripheral

12 fully programmable keys on the side, as well as 3 switchable profiles also on keys

vivid multicolor backlight

rotary volume control and 5 other dedicated audio control keys

a lcd screen that displays a variety of shit- normally i use it for my music program to display song info, but it does many things. in ddo it shows your life points and sp for example.

a switch to disable windows hotkeys to prevent them from interfering in your keybinds

a super thick cable going into the keyboard that has been more resistant to failure than any other keyboard ive ever used

this mixture of features that were hard to find on alternatives warranted the price for me

like the blackwidow mentioned above, i liked that, but the volume keys required you to hold a function key to mute or change volume which was unacceptable for heavy gaming

Steelseries Merc Stealth is pretty sweet once you get used to it (and pretty unique AFAIK). I got mine on the cheap for ~50$. They don't make them anymore though, it looks people are reselling them with a hefty markup nowadays.

I don't believe that I could use all 12 of those buttons on the side of some of those gaming mice without mashing 3 or 4 at once. So I picked out a high quality wired 5-button big enough to palm comfortably on the cheap. Added bonus: it doesn't look like a decepticon reject.
