Some Sharn Lore

In "Lost at Sea" we are attempting to find the harbor beacon of stormreach. We stumble into the Daggermaw clan of Sahuagin's cave. There we find Daask enforcers moving around some sort of tome or container.

The Daask are a criminal organization in Sharn. I'll quote some parts of the handbook on Sharn. ("Sharn: City of Towers.")

Quote:
Daask, an aggressive criminal organization led by monstrous immigrants from Droaam, has been building its power in Khyber’s Gate (in the Upper Cogs) and Malleon’s Gate (in Lower Dura) for over ten years.

Quote:
Daask has begun selling dreamlily and heartflow in the Lower Wards, and Daask is also
the only source of the mysterious drug known as dragon’s blood.

Quote:
The ultimate leader of Daask is Sora Katra, one of the three hags who rule Droaam.

Quote:
The Sharn Daask cell is led by the ogre mage Cavallah.... She is a scholar, and in her
free time she studies the effects of the manifest zone
of Sharn; she is fascinated by the ways that the city
has incorporated the magic of flight and may attempt
to obtain artifacts or magic items that relate to the
manifest zone.
Cavallah is at home in the air. While she prefers
to close and shatter her opponent’s weapons,
she makes full use of her perfect aerial maneuverability,
especially if she needs to escape. The
benefits of Manifest Flight have already been
included in her speed. Her hag eye is her connection
to Sora Katra, who sends her instructions
using sending.

Quote:
The final arrow in Daask’s quiver is the cult of the
Dark Six. Droaam is one of the few locations where
these gods are openly worshiped, but they have followers
across Khorvaire. Daask brought a number
of priests to Sharn, but the group also served as a
magnet for the existing worshipers, especially when
Cavallah restored the Temple of the Six in Khyber’s
Gate.

Quote:
The Temple of the Six: Before the rise of the
Silver Flame, it was not uncommon to find people
who openly worshipped the Dark Six, either hungry
for power or making sacrifices to placate the dark
gods. Temples to the Six were usually built in hidden
places, and when Sharn was created an enormous
temple to the Dark Six was constructed beneath the
city. In 484 YK, Flamekeeper Jalus Baine led a force
of the faithful and exterminated the followers of
the Six, and the temple was quickly ransacked. But
it was not completely destroyed. Currently, it serves
as the headquarters of Daask and the home of the
ogre mage Cavallah (LE female ogre mage rogue
3). Cavallah respects the Mockery and the Shadow
and has restored their altars, but for the most part
the temple was simply a convenient base of operations.
She has established a range of defenses in the
temple, and brought a variety of unpleasant beasts
from Droaam: gricks, displacer beasts, basilisks,
and an assortment of other deadly creatures. The
wealth gathered by Droaam lies in the vaults of this
temple—but seizing it would be a dangerous task.
Many of the Dark Six have other worshippers
in Khyber’s Gate, how have established hidden
temples; these folk generally practice their faith in
private and have little contact with Cavallah.

Personally I'm hoping we're going to see House Tarkanan pop up and potentially the aberrant dragonmarks.

All three of the 4-5e marks would make interesting options in DDO given their themes: Contagion, Terror, and Madness.

If they add the aberrant marks and follow the lore, it'd be neat to see the option added to practically every race. (Are Aasimar an exception? I don't recall, been ages since I've really delved into Eberron Lore.)

Quote:
Elemental Vessels
The practice of binding elementals to vehicles as a
means of providing fast and relatively safe transport is
quickly spreading across all Khorvaire. Most elemental
vessels are owned and operated by the Windwrights
Guild of House Lyrandar, but the gnomes of Zilargo
will build ships for anyone who can pay their exorbitant
fees. As the Last War fades into memory, more and more
elemental vessels are seeing use, bringing the citizens
of Eberron closer together—for better or worse.

...

FREEING A BOUND ELEMENTAL
One of the great strengths of the binding process is
that it is very difficult to release a bound elemental
by accident. The Khyber dragonshard used for the
ritual is well protected, so that even if an elemental
vessel is heavily damaged or destroyed, its elemental
binding typically remains in place. However, a few
methods are available should one actively desire to
release a bound elemental.

Breaking the Dragonshard: Shattering the Khyber
dragonshard that binds it can free an elemental, but it is
a diffi cult task. On the elemental vessels used by House
Lyrandar, the shard is sealed in a protective box, often
guarded with glyphs of warding or other magic traps, and
in turn protected within a special housing chamber.

The shard itself is around 6 inches in diameter and 12
inches long, has 90 hit points, and is enhanced with a
hardening spell cast by the gnomes who built the ship that
gives it hardness 16. Wary ship owners often invest in
additional protections as well.

kickass ffs

That makes a lot of sense. None of the symbols on the containers look like Dark Six symbols and one definitely looks like a flame. There are 4 elements and then light/dark maybe? One looks like grass and another might look like water.

The book I quoted is the Eberron Explorer's Handbook.

That or they're just glyphs of warding. It wouldn't make sense to bind 6 different elements inside each box after all.

Unless it's a mass production deal and the pointer indicates what flavor is bound in each housing. In which case my guess is that the glyph being indicated on all the boxes shown would correspond to evil/negative/dark elemental energy...

There is a mysterious device in the anniversary party. It has 6 buttons and lets you push five of them.
Button 1 creates an illusion of some place in sharn presumably.
Button 2 creates an imaginary figure called which calls the device the "vaunt arcane assistant." It explains that the device can repair you, give you strength, and do other magic.
Button 3 seems to be a teleportation spell that is blocked by a spectre.
Quote:
'The facility belongs to Vaunt Arcanotechnic Limited. Access is retricted to Mister Vaunt and his employees.'

Quote:
'This facility is now closed. To apply for positions at our new facility, please apply at the main Vaunt Arcanotechnic office in Clifftop.

Button 4 gives you the bull strength described by button 2.
Button 5 gives you hate magnet.

~

There are some Sharn brochures on a table next to the device.

- Caspar in the Clifftop district (the same place Vaunt lives) seems to give rides on a skycoach through the city.
- Aberrant dragonmarks are described.

We may be getting aberrant dragonmarks.

Vaunt is not a listed character in the sharn manual so it seems he's new.

This has been my hope all along. But I'm not too sure how it's going to play out. Bar them removing the dragonmark enhancement line from every race (or tieflings just aren't getting them) I don't see the aberrant marks following the new system.

Perhaps they'll work a bit more like domains. You pick up the dragon mark and every so and so levels you get the upgraded mark abilities.

This is particularly noteworthy due to the way the aberrant marks act mostly as passive abilities in tabletop.

Just noticed your link, what edition is that supposed to be for?

Last time I glanced at the aberrant marks I think it was the 4E version where they are just passive benefits not spells.

In 3.5 they were all SLAs, just like the normal marks (but different spells, and no skill bonus).

In that case bring them on.

Still think they'd have to remove the current model for dragon marks and replace them with a Domain style system in general. So that all of the appropriate races can do such, and it would make even more sense in the case of aberrant marks.

One feat gives you a couple SLA/passives at varying levels. Easier than the current system of taking a feat and then having to use the enhancement trees to buff them. Or the fact that races can currently take marks that their racial tree might not support.
