Where to go next?

So for the first time in a while last night, I felt like giving DDO the flick.
I need some help finding an alternative.
Have tried Poe which I didn't mind but I prefer the over the shoulder/first person perspective that DDO has to the isometric of PoE.
Want something with a reasonable story but not too closely related to history and that kind of reality.
I would appreciate any suggestions.

For that kind of combat

Dragon Age 1 and 3 are masterpieces and very fun on higher difficulties IMO. 2 is fun but has obvious production deficits but some great characters---I'd just story mode it.

Witcher 3 is great but a very slow burn. I'm the kind of guy who does every side quest though. I know others who just focus on the mainquest feel better about the game.

KOTOR 1 & 2.

I've been playing the hell out of Warframe.  Over-the-shoulder looter-shooter type MMO, basically space ninjas fighting clones, robots and aliens.

Pros: Great combat and movement, and moves seamlessly between ranged and melee combat.  Deep, constantly updated lore that gets revealed through every game mode.  Free-to-play, and all equipment sold in their store can be earned in-game.  By all accounts may be the least toxic, friendliest community in the whole of Videogamedom.

Cons: New player experience needs work.  Some new content for experienced players is gated behind quests that seem like a natural progression from the intro, but really aren't.  Systems are not very well explained in-game.  It seems like there are a whole lot of customization options, but in the end there really aren't.  If you're not into stumbling through and reading the hell out of the wiki, this might not be for you.

God of War was fucking spectacular, if you have a PS4.

NieR: Automata is fun if you don't mind a bit of a mindfuck and some heavy existentialism with your robot smashing.

I just picked up the PS2-era .hack//G.U. collection remastered, and am enjoying them as much as I did when they were new.

Greedfall and Control look pretty good, I haven't played them yet, but they're likely to be my next purchases.

Imo one of the reasons that Warframe has such a good player base is that the new player experience sucks.  It feels like a very aimless game until you get to the third or fourth planet, & then when the story does start, it's very easy to miss.

I love Warframe, but it could offer a lot more info in game & improve it's story delivery.

I have been playing the hell out of not DDO for about a month now and not DDO rocks.  After RL got old the game really was more like a second job than something I was doing for fun.  I'm really branching out and trying some short (only 20-40 hours play time) games I've heard about for ages and always wanted to play.  If you don't torrent, grab steam and start checking out free to cheap games for the hell of it.  The world of not DDO has a lot to offer.

I've been messing around with guild wars 2 and also getting back into Star Trek online......both are f2p so you can check them out with no $$$.

GW2.......has very active combat mechanics (which was one of the main draws of DDO for me), and is visually appealing and has a pretty large world, it just feels huge compared to DDO.

STO.......the space combat is pretty cool. The land combat is horrid though. The duty officer system is pretty awesome, makes you feel like you actually have a crew on the ship. (Think little time gated missions you send them on while you're doing other stuff)

Those are the 2 I have been kicking around since I quit DDO. GW2 is new to me, STO I played a long time ago.

Try the Divinity original sin games if you want something D&D ish

I'm playing kingdom come divergence where you start as a peasant and have to learn everything. It's set in 1300s hungry and is a blast. I'm on a adventure to learn how to read right now.

I second KOTOR series, Divinity series and Dragon Age series.  Really enjoyed them.  Have Kingdom Come Deliverance and the Witcher series, based off recommendations, but haven't given them a try yet myself.

Playing mostly GW2 and some warframe.  For single ish player games just did a run through of Remnant with my boy, was quite fun.  I also have Control on standby ready to play through.

Thanks for the ideas. I have spent the week back on Poe but cause I was too lazy to download something new.
I logged back into ddo for my rolls and just the amount of time it takes for the POS to start up made me regret it.

How are you liking the Blight mechanics?  I like the in-game nodes but the blighted maps have been a real slog.

I haven't played the game enough to make it that far.
Just hit Act 3.
I am finding that my ability to succeed in the blight encounter depends on the map layout. I struggle when the mobs spawn either side of the pump.
Prollly because I am not playing very well.

I am having a better success rate with the blight encounters than I had with the memory shard ones from the previous league.

Destiny 2 has gone f2p though the last two expansion or w/e are not free.  Seems decent so far, my son and I are liking the red war campaign dunno if this will be a long term game though.

Sober Skoodge - I've heard good things about Dragon Age and people I actually respect on the vault have recommended it.  I think I'll check it out next.
Drunken Skoodge - What was I going to play next?  Pretty sure it was Assassin's Creed III.  I'll go ahead and download it.
Sober again Skoodge - Holy fuck this game absolutely is as boring as everyone has said it is!

My son thinks Dragon Age is one of the best games ever.   Replays it a lot.  He likes DDO but got burned out on the grind.   Probably agrees with Beer's take on 1 and 3 being better than 2.

When I go to single player games, I prefer stuff like Kingmaker and BG II and such.
