HCL is a burst during a long dying process. You could be right but you could be wrong. Correlation does not imply causation. In the graph you linked the beginning is the free to play announcement. This definitely translated into more new accounts. Another thing to point out would be that after HC7 we gained total players. Interestingly, the EXPACs seem to have no impact on total player numbers. Too bad we don't have data going back to Ravenloft. I know I felt done with the game then but came back for both that and Sharn. I ignored both Feywild and Saltmarsh. I'm surprised Dread didn't have more of an impact.

	It is an indicator though. It would be great, if we had earlier data from before HCL 1. Sadly there is no useful (comparable) data on the DDO oracle. So we are stuck with educated guesses, as always. Maybe I can dig up some old annual reports and they published some numbers...

	Theory: there are players who will never set foot on hardcore, ever, no matter the reward, because permadeath is dumb. Every HCL season, some of those players just get bored and leave. What we're seeing is the cumulative effect of that.
