One spell component to rule them all

Quote:
New Items Available

Use the Omnispell Dust and Omnispell Stone in place of the material component of any magic spell. Free up inventory space!

I wonder if they've taken Trap the Soul into account on this?

At the very least they'll have to be one-for-one as expensive as Pouches of Granite and Diamond Dust or they'll later nerf stoneskin because it "trivializes lower level content".

Even if it only works like "Eschew Materials" does (and I don't know ALL of the spells that are excluded by that feat), thus excluding Trap the Soul and Stoneskin, there's still potentially Holy Sword, Tenser's Transformation, Flame Arrow, Death Pact, and Create Undead to screw up along with probably some others.

Well if eschew materials worked on things like trap the soul, stoneskin, death pact, or Holy Sword there might be an argument to take it.  Frankly I'll be happy enough to drop the 100 lbs from my inventory.

Guarantee it's DDO store only. I'm not spending TP on spell components; spending plat is bad enough.

Please, is that even a question.  No doubt it's a store item.  No f'n way they put this in the game as a standard item.  I'm so sure this is store only or some 'mistake', I'll let gawna peg me if I'm wrong.

Would agree with you if the item was listed under the "New to the DDO Store" heading and not just "New Items Available"

I would honestly be very surprised if these things weren't store only items for 1 and 10 uses respectively.

The thing that gets me is that it does say "of any magic spell" and the description on eschew materials clarifies that it doesn't work with spells that require "especially expensive material components" so either they've completely overlooked "special" spells or it truly does work on anything which lends a lot more credence to "TP Only" or worse yet "20th end reward from the new quest line".

ok then why would they do it?  Purely as a money sink? doubtful, they would just raise the price of current components from dirt cheap to almost dirt cheap.

To finally give players what they have asked for, in not having fluff take up 9 slots in their backpack? just replace all components with this new thing.

I'm thinking they would do it because they've stated before they tried to implement spell pouches for components before but the pull from bag mechanic from crafting couldn't be adapted to fit.  Also, I'm still riding the optimism high from the Let's Talk threads.

So let me dream you cynical bastards.

They will act as a teaser for the trip to FR.  Smart move imo

I really do think that they're trying to iron out some of the 'annoyance factor' faced by players before the expansion hits.  I think it fits why  they're looking at enhancement UI, uneven PrE distribution, madstone+torches (horrible first attempt there though for sure), encumbrance and now spell components/inventory clutter.

Inventory clutter sells extra inventory tabs...

Ah, so young and not cynical, I remember those days.

I think its more they are just clearing out stuff that they keep fucking up when they change other things.  Their code is such a mess that one change has so many known and unrelated issues.  I think they are just taking the stuff that does not matter that much and reducing it down before they try to merge what is pretty much a whole new game and code.

Possibly. Still, if they were that hardcore about it, far simpler to just grant Eschew Materials at level 1 for free and be done with it.

And I see them as doing both.  Cleaning up the code into a more solid base will inherently cure a lot of the annoyance problems.
