I want to see Turbine get off their ass and start coding DDO properly.  Once they can do that, maybe, just maybe, they can start going into new ideas for MMOs.  Since they cannot even figure DDO out, they really shouldn't try to figure out anything else.

Wasn't there a game where some guy had a bunch of giants chase him and he lead his giant army and used it to destroy everyone? No one could touch him because he was level 2 or something.

I want DDO 2.0 to let me be able to do that.

Thanks for sharing this.  It had me rolling.  How the hell can Leroy Jenkins have more fame than this guy.  A pro troll before his time.

Some good lines taken completely out of context:

I tried talking to the ppls to get to know them better, but as you can see here THEY ARE EVIL so they dont want to chat.

What I want? Simple. I want to stop using words  like Grind and treadmill while describing gamemechanics. It's lazy and outdated. I want Tank/Nuke/Healer to be a thing of the past. I've played all that for a decade now. There are so many interesting ideas to try that break this outdated model.

And I never want to see a hotbar again.

Couple of things.

Is a turn based (ie like table top) game able to make it in this market? I don't think so. The expectations for games require fast and furious action. With a turn based game, many abilities could be more in line, give players more options, and also give the ability to write more unique story lines and pace advancement of the characters.

A single player could work and possibly be successful, but not in an MMO environment.

The other problem is the tech available. I know that there are some pretty cool things on the horizon for voice applications (and other types of human/tech interaction), but I think we are quite a few years from making it affordable and reactive enough for games like this. Nor do I think that programs would be agile enough to accomplish near instantaneous feedback/results.

The problems are tech limitations and expectations. I think we are stuck in this model for quite some time yet.

Tech limitations are quite evident in the amount of lag players have to deal with. Lag and DC's are becoming more frequent with each update. Some may be connection speeds or poor video cards on the players end, but much is in the programming of the game itself. It has very evident since the physics update. Monsters and players getting stuck in walls, falling damage and other things.

I see most problems in the video rendering programming in this game. I can run any other game and not have a single issue. Only in DDO do I get hitching and lag. I have logged on, entered the market place and could not move for more than 2 minutes, or even DC'd. I can count on DCing if I enter Sands or Orchard. It isn't my video cards (dual 9800GTX in SLI). It is the programming. I really wish you guys would work on these issues.

Fire every developer and the associated management who suggested combining the most hated elements of MMO into a raid.  Nannybot + Poor game level design + craptastic NPC AI + A UI that would induce convulsions in Edward Tufte = I'd rather slam my dick in a car door.  For fucks sake, an escort archetype for DDO's flagship raid in their most well known world setting is the worst possible choice Turbine has ever made.

Also up against the wall: The people responsible for The King's Forest.  It's Generic_Fantasy_Zone_129142.  Zero creativeness.  What game am I playing again?  Vanguard?  EverQuest?  World of Warcraft?  Sure as hell can't tell the difference when in this zone.

Absolutely would keep the marketing department intact.  They've done an amazing job.

Neverwinter Nights.

The thing *I* loved is how they were PROUD of the fact that they'd make it look like Generic_Fantasy_Zone_129142. "It's so great! It doesn't look at ALL like Eberron! It's absolutely the lowest common denominator, milquetoast, triple-distilled genera-crap you came to know and love in Forgotten Realms! We even made the buildings in Crap_Town_01 look like they're cookie-cutter-made!"

What do you guys think of DragonLance for a DnD setting?  That would be different.  Metal in all forms is scarce/expensive... metal pieces instead of gold/plat.  A major town high in the trees.  Arcane advancement requires special questing/training.  Divines are rare due to raging conflicts between the Gods.  Polymorphed dragons secretly conspiring about in human form (some of them with a twisted sense of humor).

...and the best part... Kender!  LOL I know many ppl find them annoying but keep an open mind... the griefing possibilities are endless!  Oh and tinker gnomes!  Forget artificiers... those guys were way funnier.

Meh, just a thought.

EVERYONE would be required to pass a capitalization and punctuation test or the only race they could roll would be a gully dwarf.

Gully Dwarves can count to "two". Really smart gully dwarves understand that after two comes "more than two".

This is about consistent with the playerbase.

Unless you played a Kender in PnP, you have no idea.... trust me, you cannot have a clue how annoying and griefing a Kender can be. ( and still be in character )

Once upon a time.... in a DL campaign... I played a Kender along with a friend, in a party of 7 players... After the end of DL 1 the moto for the rest of the party was to ask every 3 minutes ( they went as far as to use a countdown on a watch to make sure they didn't miss it ) to the GM where the two Kenders were... lets jut that that if they forgot to ask it once the consequences were unforgiving.

Ugh. Yes.
I refuse to play in a group with Kender. Some of my friends had the kender doing things like loosening the fletching (whoo, almost typed THAT word wrong) on party member arrows, effectively making them useless....then one of them got a worn ring of invis...*shudders*

Another great setting: DeathGateCycle
Also created by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman, the original DragonLance authors.  Arianus (the air world) all by itself seemed amazingly vivid to me, and that was just book one.

Those two are total douchecanoes.

Well, these two paragraphs kinda make sense in context Tongue realms are probably the most generic setting in existence, and well, people (in general) love generic.

Fuck, I can't stand generic. If I wanted that, there's around 5000 other shit MMOs for that nonsense. Sure, Turbine messes shit up a lot, but I prefer the feel of Eberron because it's unique to most other stuff out out there.

Also, fuck your Elminster, fuck your Drizzt, fuck your artemis, fuck your Sword Coast, and fuck your boring as hell generic setting!

I agree. I really like the feeling of Eberron. Forgotten Realms seems a little bland to me atm, but I've only been to Evenstar, the Forest and a couple of the challenges. Need to get in and try the quests and see if they feel any less bland, I guess.

Maybe if they spent their time building a dynamic world rather than fucking with every core mechanic...
