“He… he’s black…”

An interesting setting and mostly open and untapped lore wise.

I just got that impression after you spent 13 pages calling out eladiun for being an interwebs bully when anyone who's been posting on here already knew that.  I mean, he's proud of it and hardly tries to hide that at all.

Yeah and instead of getting excited over magic weapons, people will be tripping when someone gets a steel one that doesn't break after a few days use.

Hell why not all the above.  Make every server different and allow travel between them.  Put a caravan of spelljammers together and carry your loot from one server to the next, making merchant trades in light of what is rare or common in that world.

Could even have different pvp situations on each server.

Load balance issues?  Increase the price/delay to travel to a specific server, or close the route for a while.  Give away incentives to encourage colonization of new servers.

I'm honestly surprised you guys haven't made mention of this that I had seen here:

https://goblinworks.com/

Granted we are a few years off from something playable but it intrigues me now that I have a group to play pathfinder with and have seen the rules Paizo does that makes things....work.

Secondly, on topic, a whole new modern engine that's coded in like professional coders. Granted I have the greatest respect for the devs of DDO but ugh.....I dont want to keep using DDO as an example for what not to do when coding large scale projects. I get it....people move on. Those people better be damn professionals and comment their own work.  Modularity of code....there needs to be more. I could go on for more things that I can infer from a black box perspective but it would just be bitching at that point.

Thirdly, the people I hung out with at PAX East for the first 2 days were awesome and nice people. 3rd day, not so much. The end of the story. Turbine has the standard mixture of good and bad. They have the potential, they have the IP, they just need the right kick at the right times that aren't marketing based.

Takeaway: DDO  decent, could be fantastic, lack causes sadness.

But what game system is that going to be based on?  Any rule set that we know? D&D3.5?  Is it going to be another WoW clone that happens to have sandbox settings?

Did I really write that? lol
In my defense, my idiocy was firmly established several threads ago.

I even looked up those lyrics for some quotable nugget...
Yeah... nothing... you already nabbed the best line.
Bastard.

Its Pathfinder.
Roughly 3.5 but with the edges sanded and mechanisms fixed to work.

This.
Sad but true. I would so love to see people deviate from the Everquest model for MMO's but I think that moment has passed, and MMO's are a dirty word to a publisher this year...see Star Wars and 38 Studios. What was that 500 MMO employees vaped in a week? (but that evil Turbine..)
It's sad really, because 'MMO' at the beginning was not supposed to only be MMORPG, but a whole new way to play multiple genres. There was some ok experiments into other genres like Planetside, and one very hopeful one in the future --Mechwarrior, but most have been substandard to awful like Auto Assault.

What I want? Simple. I want to stop using words like Grind and treadmill while describing game mechanics. It's lazy and outdated. I want Tank/Nuke/Healer to be a thing of the past. I've played all that for a decade now. There are so many interesting ideas to try that break this outdated model.

And I never want to see a hotbar again.

That's very interesting to hear, given the source.

I think DDO was on the right path, six-ish years ago - anyone remember the phrase "the no-grind MMO"?  Unfortunately, it started to stray fairly quickly and has became exponentially worse as the years went by.

Exactly.  I always knew there would be some level of grind - I mean without it players would just quit after a month.  It has become like every other mmo with an endless grind though.

I wasn't around.  Was it really a no-grind MMO back then?

Howso?

Does that mean that you just did every quest once and *poof*, you were capped?
