When I saw this post, I thought it was a terrible exageration.
Newbs vs Vets

(1) Playtime Is Irrelevant
The amount of time you've been playing this game has almost no correlation with how good a player you are. You can't be uber on day one because DDO is very peculiar. But if you're smart enough and coordinated enough, then you can be uber from day two. Conversely, just because you've been playing DDO for a looong time, doesn't necessarily mean you're any "good" at it in the sense of knowledge, skill, temperament, or ability to play well with others.
I've seen "Founders" who've been playing since 2006 who don't know how to raid. I've seen people with 50k+ posts on the forums talk excitedly about completing their first Shroud = their first raid completion ever (not counting TS ofc). There are plently of players who've been playing this game for a long time, who've TR'd toons, who've run 1,000 Shrouds, who are still flat out NOOBS.
But then I recently saw these:
Been playing since 2006, never done a raid, afraid of 1st Shroud:
http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=378335
At least he has a 20. This guy's been playing 6.5yrs - 30days, and highest level toon is 18!
http://forums.ddo.com/showpost.php?p=4525300&postcount=14
Most of the forums are min-maxers, raiders, shortmanners, nerfers, greenis farmers... But
Plz shr Vet Noob sightings... it's perversely entertaining.

The friend that introduced me to DDO and plays every day...
He has a toon in our static group, another caped toon, grinding epic gear and such.
Well, the other day, my cleric falls to -1.
"Hey, n00b friend of Azog, could you hjeal me?"
" I has nothing to hjeals"
(I know he NEVER throws something away)
"well, you surely have the aid bracers from khortos..."
"O yes, I have them, but I cannot click on you to choose you"
"Just keep pressing f2, f3, and so, til you see me"
(wooosh... I see how he casts aid on himself...)
"You have to put it in a hotbar"
"Ah, yes.."
(wooosh...he casts again aid on himself)
"And you have to trigger it FROM the hotbar, not the inventory"
"Oh, didn´t know that"
Lucky me, another friend was tired of the show and helped me out with an aid.
...the best... this was the SECOND time I tell him that. It happened before.

While I do think that time has some relevance, the guy has a point. There are tons of players that have been playing since Beta that outright suck, but yet they'll tout out how long they've been playing in an effort to garner respect. What's funny is when they do the opposite when they're called out.

Well, practice makes better but it stacks multiplicatively, not additively
Someone who is just bad at videogames (and a lot of these seem to play DDO compared to other online games I played, must be the whole d&d thing
), passage of time can't fix that, same with me and bad puns

I've been playing since end of '06
I've lead every raid but Abbot, Titan, Artificer and LoB. I like the first two, just don't have the patience to wait to form the group - The Last two I'm still learning as I've been on the TR train so much that I haven't spent much time in them.
I still learn stuff by listening and letting others lead when I join their groups. Sometimes you find some neat "Short-cuts" and other times you get to hear such complete rubbish about the best way to do stuff, or false information about quests most likely perpetuated by someone else.

I don't think you qualify as a vet noob.

Well I totally agree with keybreaker, but I think the examples you brought there are a bit off. DDOs game content is rather easy, the difficult part of DDO would rather be the handling of the game mechanics which are vastly different from most MMOs.
The vet noob doesn't have to be the guy that never ran shroud, but the guy bragging about having 500 Bazillion scales but still managing to die in part 3 of shroud.

I know a few or these vet-noobs, my old guild had quite a few. Some are only part time noobs when it comes to adopting to new things. They still run quests and raids like they learned them on the old codemasters’ servers. Like the people that still ask my if I want to join their boring vale slayer grind but are afraid of challenges, because they are to complicated….
And if I join said vale slayer in sake of the good old days I only remember as the empty server days this happens: Just heal me, I’ll shout them with my repeater… kiting mobs thru the entire vale, attracting more killing hardly any, needing constant healing. Me: Have you tried Artificers, it’s like a repeater rogue with bladebarrier, self heals if warforged and and a rune arm cannon … not true enough to D&D for you? Right… what is that repeater? You shoot them with something good aligned, do you? Banishing works good in vale. Answer: Hellfire crossbow... I let him die, hit implosion and bladebarrier, rez him after the train he caused is dead and recall. That are the moments I remember why I looked for another guild with players that are not dinosaurs.

This. Exactly. I don't know which server you are playing on, but I had a similar experience.
I am still befriended with my ex-guild, but needless to say, it is my ex-guild.

I have a theory that many people play DDO and other co-op/MMO type games because they're terrible at competitive games. I'll admit it: I'm not very good at FPS and RTS games. But I like to think that the mark of a bad gamer in DDO is the inability to learn and do abbot puzzles properly, and from the looks of it, the large majority of DDO players are far worse gamers than me. And this makes me happy.

I wish DDO had a /played like everquest.
The fact that I've been playing for over a year means squat when you consider I've rarely had a week where I've gotten in more than 10 quests for the WHOLE WEEK.
Some weeks I'm lucky to complete a single quest.
I'm the WORST when it comes to downtime. The second my wife sees the DDO Screen come up, nevermind that she's logged into LotRO, It's time to clean/watch the kid/do something else that wasn't urgent 10 seconds ago so the only times I get to play are either when she's gone or when she's asleep.

Mine, like our daughter, is apparently sleep agnostic. She's certain that there's SOMETHING out there that might be sleep, or a nap, or possibly dozing, but she's not comfortable giving it a name or dealing with it particularly often. That's for OTHER types of people.

FPS are boring.
RTS games are boring, unless you actually go against somebody with real skill. This only happens during the first 6 weeks of an RTS due to its tournament ranking system. After that every scrub has earned enough points or won against enough people who DC that even the highest rank areas are filled with them. SC/SC2 is a great example.

Fucking hell. I hate those people.
Especially the non-stop chatterboxes that just won't shut up about how awesome their character is. I've never had even one of these people be able to back it up when things go pear shaped.
