ok, just stop - that 130ms vs. 1.2 sec traceroute discussion proves it - they are 1) clueless and 2) dragging everyone who tries to talk sense into their little rabbit hole.

yes, turbine-7.border1.bsn003.pnap.net has a problem...
It's a PNAP system, which is the hosting company for Turbine's DDO servers.

Now Educated Guesses :
- a failing ( frozing TX ) SFP/XFP module
- a crashing card.
- a bad cable ( optical or not )

But that system and the one at the other end of the cable needs to be inspected in details.

Thanks Flav. If only Turbine itself paid this much attention, something might actually get done Smiley

In fairness, a packet filter or similar could be causing the one timeout, but the point of my post over in official was that Tuhrd went straight for "well, 130 ms is high" instead of the timeout on the edge hop and the latency on the last two... just silly.

It was Ironclan, and it looks like he never lived in the time when 800ms latency was a good value.

I know math are hard, but it's basic math :
Light propagate at the Speed of Light ( I'm assuming light in a fiber propagates at the speed of light in vacuum here ).

there's a few ten/hundred/thousand kms between one hop and another
so distance/speed of light = latency of that link.
do that for all the links and you'll get the incompressible latency... then add the router generated latency, and you'll get the full latency.

but I'm not sure he'll understand the concept... especially has he is still mixing latency, ping, lag and bandwidth.

Now if somebody can explain me why when I configure a bridge with a L2VPN on a pseudowire and a L2VPN directly on the bridge, disable the mac learning and then start injecting 500Mb/s of 64bits frames I get on the agregation switch of the access circuit a 1Gb traffic in.  ( yeah I know it sounds weird... but that's my problem of the day... This is the Internet. )
[ oh and there's no way you can find a real traffic with only 64 bytes packets, but there's fucking test equipments that are RFC2544 compliant that generates this kind of fucked up traffic just to give people like me nightmares ]

Well not completely wrong.
Your ISP is directway
Then you go to Salt Late City ( slc )
Then you go to Denver ( den )
Then to Kansas City  ( mci ) Shocked
Then to Chicago ( ord O'Hare )
Then Boston ( bos )
and Last Turbine.
Interestingly you are not entering Turbine network through the same hop as me, seems
there might be some load balancing or some kind of LAG between border1.pnap.net and the Turbine World ( 74.201.102 ) as you enter through 154 and I entered through 170.

what software is that mystifyi? I just shell to prompt and tracert for quick checks, and I use WinMTR when I'm wanting a longer test. WinMTR is nice but I like that graph screen you've got there. Smiley

You forgot to hide your private IPs in the first captures each time  Roll Eyes

But as they are run the mill 'basic default router IPs' it doesn't matter much.
( mine is not in 192.168.1.1-3 for example... that's why I make sure I hide it. )

Oh and is it me or your using a virtual machine or some kind of weird setup ( well weirder than mine ) ... 2 private hops before you reach your ISP.  Shocked

And from your trace the loss seem to occur between the border router at PNAP and Turbine entrance.

hahaha fek me, i did miss that  Cheesy

ya, i got a silly setup, but it works for my household.
I really need to get a new ISP, but shockingly I am having difficulty even though I live in las vegas. seems like this address does not have access to cable/fiber internets leaving me very little choices.

No, we are saying Turbine choose a fucked up hosting facility... namely one of the PNAP datacenter around Boston.

But it can also means that Turbine don't have a clue about Notwork and Swervers Infrastructure.
Both are not mutually exclusive.

Right now the only thing we can say is that there's a fucking problem at the last router beyond Turbine Universe... and that last router is a fucking Single Point of Failure as it seems everybody goes through it. Said fucking router is a PNAP router, so it's not Turbine's problem... Once that fucking router is fixed
( and honestly if they are as fast as I am at fixing fucked up router it will take months ) it will be time to start looking at Turbine's Notwork and see if they really know their shit or or they are fucking wanabee.

He's probably similar to mine - I have 1 router off the NID/MODEM to act as a distribution point, a second router upstairs - I did it to extend wireless range because the demarc is in one corner of the house downstairs and the opposite corner upstairs loses signal strength.

...and at the end of the day it's Turbine's responsibility to make sure their host is meeting the standards required to run their game.  They should be doing this sort of testing regularly never mind after all the issue reports they have received.  If I pay someone to host a service for my company and if fucks up, I can't turn around and say sorry customers it was our host.
