this started before the expansion release for me. i don't remember if i had to try multiple times to log in the one time i logged in after the expansion.

YABB and try the preloader. I have no options in it ( I have SSDs now, so load times are... puny ) but all those I know that tried it tells me it does wonder.

thanks i will probably try the preloader if i (or turbine) can ever remotivate myself to play again. i kicked ddo off my ssd a while ago(i deemed it unworthy of premium storage), the ddo load time difference between a hdd and a ssd is amazing.

Given that the game was less broken pre-2011, this isn't saying much.

Ah.

Not concerned about premium storage got 160Gb + 160Gb +180Gb of SSD.
Actually I have more SSD space on my home computer than old turning plate HDD space.....

Ok that depends on the computer...
The Sparc U45 has 1 250Gb SAS HDD and 2*1Tb Sata HDD drives.
The 8 Years Old and not dead yet Vaio has 40Gb of HDD.
The 8 Years Old Pentium D930 Main computer has the above SSD and a 230 Gb HDD ( some days I wonder why I kept the HDD )

Enjoy the exploit while you can. Already fixed, not deployed.
And yes it is at an all time low. MOTU was at a 2000+ user pain, SC is under 400. Still not where I want it to be, but I'll take it. Last year we were on hotfix 36 or something by this point, I lost all my hair, sleep and gained 20 pounds. I still have no hair, but I'm sleeping just fine, and have lost 28 pounds...so I'm ahead of the game.
Oh and we did all this with half the team of last year (no fired, just moved to other projects). So troll away armchair developer, we are quite pleased where we are compared to last year.
Yes there are bugs..duh. Welcome to software. Let's watch our competitors tomorrow, and let's see who does more patches over the next 2 weeks. And that game is dead simple compared to the morass of stuff we have to deal with.

Seriously, if I find the dev that put in that 'feature' that is being abused right now...Sadly i can't shame any of the current team, that is an old old old checkin.

Want me to go pull a list frooommm..pick a game? Let's see...legacy of Romulus. 2 pages of issues on launch day, with what...16+ patches since XP launch? Right.

Give the buggy crap a rest. The game is in better shape now than it has been since 2011.

You have some of the best PvE but the bugs.  Several of my characters that I enjoyed playing I couldn't get a piece of gear because of Improved deception getting immediate aggro.

Not sure if you fixed exalted angle stacking to get reborn in the light.  Last I played if you let the stacks of light or healing counters go down beyond 2, you had to flush it if you had over 5 because it would not add onto the stack.

I stopped playing a year ago because I just couldn't stand them anymore, as well as the rest of the stuff that I had to encounter with the rest of my characters.

I don't know if they've been fixed.  Had thought about coming back to play again but that is going to be a bunch of notes I have to go through to see if it is worth it.  I also have no faith in you guys.  Instead of dumping out contend as fast as you did, you should have concentrated on a major polish.

Then there is the lag.  I have not experienced that lag at all in the game I'm currently playing unless you have 300 people in the same spot trying to kill each other.  The rest of the game, lag free.

You have some of the best PvE but there is stuff that should not have made it live and some things just should have been fixed.

I lost faith in you guys.

Ditto what Meursault and Stanley Nicholas said.  I have a few hours a week to play and 14 toons.  Since the update, my routine goes: log onto my main (currently 8/6/6 Fighter/Rgr/Mnk build, life 8) get my free daily dice roll, open the Enhancements UI, click a few icons, hit 'Cancel', sigh, chat to the only guildie who's still logging on, quit game, go to bed.

Yeah, I agree.  I haven't even set foot in any of the new content yet.  I haven't run any quest at all since before the "expansion" dropped.  Tonight I logged on, rolled the free daily dice, said hi to some guildies, and then decided I'd rather go take a shit.  After that I decided to turn on the TV.  I hadn't even bothered closing the game - I just left it idling until I was auto logged out for inactivity an hour later.

I've done the same with enhancements.  I'm not sure how I want to reset them, but can see I'm going to need feat and skill swaps on most of my characters and probably other changes too that the +20 heart won't cover.  So I play with the settings for a bit then say "fuck it" and hit cancel.  I don't have a single epic level character with his enhancements set, and therefore I don't have any epic level characters in a playable state.

And when people link all the new overpowered lootgen shit, it doesn't make me want to grind it out.  It just makes me feel sad and tired.  The effort isn't worth it when it will inevitably be nerfed to uselessness just like everything else.  Plus all the named loot looks like trash to me.  There's nothing specific worth chasing after.  P_o_S is, without a doubt, the single worst thing that ever happened to this formerly-enjoyable game, and every update all he does is make things worse.

Uh-huh, what you said.  Right now, I feel like I have so much to do that I don't want to do any of it.  When that happens at work, eventually one of the things I'm not doing will get really urgent and I'll have to start doing things again or I'll get fired*. Right now I can't see any way that DDO is going to instil the sense of urgency necessary to get me to tackle the huge job of sorting out my toons.  As you say, just the notion of going and finding enough new lootgen to bring me up to par is a horribly tedious prospect.  My usual response would be to TR, but as my twink gear ML's are all screwed up, even that's not very appealing.

Another factor is that it seems likely that they're going to do away with the "only 5 levels needed for Tier 5 enhancements" thing.  That's not exactly an inducement to waste any effort finding new builds for old toons  Sad

* or at least "not get my bonus".  It's difficult to get fired these days for anything less than attempting to bugger the photocopier, and even then only if someone's using it at the time.

I'm curious as to what you think "the next one" might be.  Speaking strictly for myself, I'm not an "online gamer", I just play DDO.  If I weren't playing DDO - and right now I'm not - I wouldn't be playing another game, because as far as I know there's nothing like it out there.  This is exactly why I've wasted so much virtual breath on it: much as many of the changes over the past few years have sucked, there still isn't an acceptable substitute.  It's DDO or nothing.

I have no interest in modern-era or futuristic milieux: I'm here because it's based on D&D, although a similar fantasy setting would do if a game met the other criteria.  A game is only interesting to me with strong character customisation features such that you can build something that's not the same as the next guy's and still be effective at a similar job.  Active combat (with lots of real-time options) is a must...  I love that stuff, so it's telling that even I think that DDO has gone completely overboard now with the number of active clickies.  Most content must be soloable as I don't have time for dicking around finding groups and don't really like people anyway.  I must be able to spend as much or as little time as I have available without ending up disadvantaged, and don't have the time or inclination for PvP so the game's main focus must be PvE.  Oh, and I want something F2P to begin with so I don't have to drop any cash until I know I like it.

Does anyone have a list of games that meet all these criteria?  So far I've come up with:

1)  DDO

If there are more - if there IS a "next one" - then let me know; I'm all ears.

If you liked Diablo II's combat, and final fantasy 10's Sphere grid, go check out path of exile.

Completely different to DDO, but it definately has active combat and fantastic character build options.

I was really disappointed in PoE, myself.

You're better off just playing Diablo II or Torchlight II.

I like the new quests.  They are a reasonable challenge on EE, I like seeing some of the new mobs (Griffons, for example).

I like the new adventure areas.

I'm good with the enhancement pass.  I have one character I am completely stumped on because the build just doesn't work anymore and I'm not sure what to do with it yet.  The others are either as strong or stronger than before, two with few changes and one with some pretty big changes, but the heart of wood took care of that for me.

The loot changes that keep coming every release are annoying as hell.  That's probably my biggest WTF about the whole thing.  I like new loot, but new loot that is just totally different than all the old loot is really making me scratch my head.

I like the idea of sagas.

I think the biggest difference for me is that I'm not going to rush to gear my toons like I did with eGH.  There's no point.  I had 4 EE dragon helms, 4 sets of fully upgraded dragon armor, 2-3 FoT items, and 2-3 EE eGH items on each toon within 4-5 weeks of release.  I'm not making that mistake again.  I'll explore the new stuff, get my loot as it comes, keep working my TR plan, and let it happen as it happens.

For me since I am still, despite all the bugs and changes, having fun playing DDO there is no next one, so I can't recommend you anything but from what you and eg Stanley write you don't sound like you are still having fun but only log in out of habit

I will never play another MMO. And I do play other games. I can still manage to express dissatisfaction with P_o_S and DDO in general, while simultaneously spending time on some other game.  Roll Eyes

Bugs weren't my problem.  Crappy content, broken dev 'give-a-damn', lack of communication, Feather of Stupid, & lies were my problems.  I used to spend 50-100$ a month on top of my VIP.  So, no, to me, it is in worse shape.

Sure you do, you are assured that the quality of this game will be somewhat below that of a 1979 Ford Pinto

Turdbin, keep changing the DDO rules, because McDonalds sold over 200 billion hamburgers by changing the recipe for their Special Sauce every couple of months to keep interest up.

There are lots of Pinto's still on the road, and Gremlins.  Use an Edsel as a better example.  Or a Yugo.
