	this distinction with being american did it have anything to do with the war of independence? To show how they are different to the other people in the then british empire. We are americans from the new world, we are different. Though the america's did cover the entire two continents and everything in them, american became to mean a citizen of the united states of america one of the biggest nations in those two landmasses, if not the biggest in terms of population? Surely the most powerful by far, in terms of military and economy/wealth.
