Anyone still get these?

I have DDO on a SSD.
Good internet connection.
Decent graphics card.

WHY ZONING DCS?!

Is there any fix?

64 bit OS

tl dr: I went from the classic Sands zone-in DC nearly every time 1x per login, to 0x ever since...all I did was upgrade from 32 bit W7 to 64 bit Win7.  No other changes.

tl dr2: Use a 64 bit OS

I got those occasionally on my former (much more powerful) computer, and quite often on my current (crappy) computer.

There was a fix that worked well, something about dedicating more RAM to gaming applications, and it worked for me, but it was lost to time after the forum changeover, and I'm not nearly literate enough to tell you the process.

It's because Sev had a brilliant idea to make the position code TCP and the keepalive UDP.

OS? 32 or 64? RAM?

I looked into this for a guildy and it turned out that his system had a hard cap on how much memory it would allocate to any single program.

That's what I'm running, too, but no SSD, and shitty on-board graphics.

I should probably re-install, but my new computer fund is almost full, and I'm too lazy to back everything up just to re-install on a system I'm only going to use for storage in a couple of weeks.

There you go, 32 bit is your problem. I'll bet 15 shiny astral shards on it.

Make sure all your drivers are up to date and then try readyboosting before you go tinkering with your OS.

i occasionaly have zoning DC isues, even when just entering quests etc.

i m using w7 64, and have all needed TCP/UDP slots opened.

as workaround which works for me i just change the user defined port in preference file to some other number from set of defined ports - 2906 works for me - some others can result in breaking chats etc.

i m not definitelly techie guy, so idk even know why it works, but it does:)

you must overcome memory leaks, loading times, file fragmentation, and client time outs. upgrade everything

get at least 25/25mbps internet, more than 8gb of ddr3 ram, a current gen vid card with at least 2gb, small ssd specifically for a fresh install of DDO and Win 7 Pro x64, and a quad core i5 or i7 cpu over 3ghz

granted if anyone here was actually able to do this, they would surely have done it long before being told on these forums in 2015.

tl;dr dont use a shit pc

In 32 bit OS, you can allocate a max of 2gb or so of ram to a single program. Oftentimes, ddo takes way more than 3+ gb of ram.

They never did fix that memory leak issue from years ago. Switch characters three-four times and you'll see your load time go considerably up and ddo crash when you try to exit.

I was instructed by Support to do that to avoid login errors (hanging on load screens, searching for login server, etc) and it worked.  I was told to try ports 9000-9010.  I also have no idea what that does or means, or if it helps anything else.

This did the fix for me back then:

Quote:
Click on the Windows "Start" button
Then click on "My Documents" or "Documents"
Double-click the "Dungeons and Dragons Online" folder
Within there locate and rename the "UserPreferences.ini" file (e.g. OLDUserPreferences.ini)
(NOTE: If there is no "UserPreferences" file available to rename, skip to the next step)
Relaunch the game to log in, and pause at "server select"
Now click the button in the row in the upper right-corner that has the single down-arrow on it
Choose Options from the menu that comes up
In Options, under the "Repair" tab click to enable the "Reset game display settings" option and click on "OK"
Continue by selecting your server and choosing "Yes" when prompted "Are you sure you want to reset the games display settings?"

That's a lot cheaper than buying 64 bit Windows. Worth a shot. Thanks!

EDIT: Or wait, will it just be an install option on my Windows install CD or whatever?

I bought a refurbished computer with a licensed copy of windows 7 that came with both 32 and 64 bit install discs.  Check your windows discs.

<aol> upgrading from windows xp 32-bit to windows 7 64bit got rid of zoning dc's for me... this was on the same hardware.

What did not get fixed was the stuck audio background music from being in the demonweb (or from other places, not sure why).
