If I had to bet I'd rather say activation, cooldown, animation and actual damage are all not properly syncronized and chancec are high it's not landing at all.

chances are you are an ignoramus.

smite seems to double strike a lot.  could be observer bias though.

Have you tried a lower difficulty, such as the official forums?

I did some testing on the airship dummy.  When I take a regular swing I hit once.  When I smite, I hit once, then the combat log shows a 2nd hit and a line that says dummy was smitten.  So it seems that in addition to the damage that smite does it also gets an extra hit.

I don't think naming names would be a good thing for me to do, but I'd pretty much add anyone who's a know-it-all dick on the list. Even if they are sometimes intelligent with their opinions, the way they state them in long, "i'm a lawyer at trial"-type posts makes me want to punch them in the face. They act like whiney babies with god complexes and then freak out if someone so much as breathes criticism in their direction.

Smite Evil does not do any light damage; perhaps you're referring to the pretty light show it puts on to signify the attack happened.  It is likely the attack may not coincide perfectly in synchronization with the flashy particle effect.

In the combat log, the second line raybob mentions hitting the target with Smitten is, according to the wiki, a debuff of -1 To-hit, damage, saves, and skill checks for your paladin levels as duration.

Also from the wiki, Smite Evil adds damage to your attack (it isn't rolled separately).  You add (3*Paladin level) + 7. This extra damage is only applied if the target is Evil, so should not be appearing on a training dummy (although the attack might say you hit it with Smite Evil, the damage should be a normal damage range).

Finally, you say you just made a new bladeforged.  All new bladeforged are provided bracers with +3% doublestrike on them, so you are quite probably doublestriking due to that.  As for 100% of the time, I'd have to see a video of that as proof.  If true, I wonder why the game isn't filled with bladeforged paladins doublestriking away at everything in sight.

I hope this clears things up a bit for you.
