Fun warlock builds?

Dear lazyweb.

Long time no see.

So, I bought warlock mainly because I had some points to use up and they were just sitting there not doing very much (and I am guessing the amrath thingy is the last hurrah and I can get enough points for that if I actually get back into the game.

What builds have you enjoyed playing?

Link to motherforums is OK if you need to, I can see that.

Pure has been working extremely well in heroics for me up to now.

Only level 13 though. Points evenly divided between Soul Eater and Tainted Scholar at the moment.

First thing I did was rush to Cone shape early on and everything has been a joke since.

Feats...still not sure what would be best yet. Took emp/max/quick early on but feels like I don't really benefit much from them at the moment. SLAs are all I use them for and they were powerful at the early levels but have not been that useful since Blast has been more than enough to murder anything when cone was acquired. I can see them being useful again for Destiny spells, so picking them later might be best.

Else than that, some spell focus to unlock ED +DC stuff probably, might consider Extend for Displacement/Tenser (if that does not screw up refresh on Destiny things, idk yet have to test). Maybe Mental Toughness line for spell crits. Still very undecided about a good feat setup  Undecided

As far as splitting goes, made me consider maybe adding Warlock levels to my Shiradi Druid build if I ever run that again. Feels like a lot of procs could be added with the aura tree and those two AOE blasts in there.

Hope it can help a bit, sadly not very experienced with them still.

for heroic you cant really go wrong with max dc necro based. whatever you cannot necro will die to blasts, slas, and consume/stricken.

Many of the tier 5 abilities are aoe and cost 0 sp. they benefit from magic metas. Very powerful in all 3 trees.

Cone and chain are the most useful blast shapes. your blasts crit off of the spell type of the blast being used(generally force and whatever your pact power is). The more spell power of the appropriate type you have the more damage. max your dc so that mobs cannot save against your pact damage. take necro focus, wiz past life, mental toughness will boost your blast criticals. Spell pen might be needed depending on content you like to run.

No spell pen needed for your EB. For your spells (Mass Hold Monster, FoD, etc.) though, spell pen will be needed if running against Drow or Devils/Demons.

_______

Haven't played a warlock yet but, wow, when I run with good builds, they kill everything super fast. I've actually seen a couple of crappy warlocks - is it easy to screw up or were they just bad players?

I found chain the fastest zerging form for heroic.

aura and eldritch cleaves for epics, you can faceroll solo pretty much everything EE even with half korthos gear on

On and shiradi is more damage, ea is better dc. Magister is good for dc as well but tier 4 ea gives +3 dc to all spells.  You can twist in other dc.  The build on the forum is actually pretty good honestly.

This.

I'm inclining towards tainted and chain.

Doing heroics smoothly.

Guess most of you knew it, but the vault isn't the first place with tentacle penetration: http://tinyurl.com/2knsft (SFW, no really!)

I'm about to start my 3rd life on one of my two main toons.  The one that was an FvS.  So, was geared for casting.  My main melee is on 1st life.

On the caster, Chain is the fastest leveling.  It just annhiliates things.  The aura is actually slower because it doesn't proc fast enough, but there are some nice things for survivability and DPS in the ES tree.

I've not found a splash that brings that much to the table, so I just stay pure.  The capstones in the PrE trees are decent.

On the caster, I max out Charisma, Con, and then Int.  Skill points in Spellcraft, Concentraion, UMD, then whatever you want.  For pact, I either go with Fey or the Great Old One.  Acid and Sonic both have few mobs with resistances, but sonic is probably the better of the two, from that regard.  The add disco ball is really nice in Fey.

Pretty easy to get the DC into an acceptable range for pwn-ing EH and working in EE.  In anything non EE, just wail, Finger, and dance shit and then chain nuke it into the ground.

On the melee, he had a ton of shields and armor and such, so I took him the ES route and use aura, the bursts, and swing the sticks.  PRR and MRR are through the roof.  HP are high.  I tanked charisma, which sucks because you lose the pact damage, but I make up for it with the damage from swinging the sticks while the aura is procing.  Points in STR, Con, Dex (for TWF).  Took Max and Empower, but no other metamagics.  Took melee feats the rest of the way. (except the epic feats that boost eldritch blast).  Slap on a shield and block while the aura procs if shit gets serious, which it never does, except in EE.  A decent leveler, but even on this toon I got the chain blast for heroics.  It is great to kill 4 mobs at a time from afar and never stop running.  Probably not the most optimal build, really, but, I just need some PL's   He isn't staying a Warlock permanently and it fits his gear better.

My first try with warlock:
20 warlock, drow, true neutral. Picked fey path. Majority of enhancement points in Soul Eater, with the remainder in Harper. Went charisma based.

Pros:
Once you get cone shape around level 4, heroics are a joke. I breezed through heroics, just using cone shape aoe attack. The SLA's are ok for more single target dmg, during a boss or whatnot, but for the majority of the quest, all you need is auto attack with the cone. If you pick up the triple blast enhancement sla (forgetting name atm, just got home from work), stuff dies even faster. With disco ball, auto attack, and the triple wave SLA, even kings forest Grim Disturbance was quick.

Cons:
Squishy. Kinda meh in ee.

Feat wise, I had the maximize/empower/quicken for the SLA, and it is ok for beefing up the dmg for boss/single target. I also took the spell power line for spell crit, and am in shiradi ED. Seems to be... ok. Definitely more AOE dmg than 5 foot's pure barb build I've been running for many lives now, but I think that is still more fun and definitely has more survivability.

My next life, going to try PDK 20 warlock, going melee 2wf, with PDK char for attack, and using the enhancement line that changes EB to an aura, and has 'cleaves' built into the enhancement line.

Pure fiend chain-spammer, max CHA and 14 INT/CON drow.

In epics plays about the same with Sharida giving it some needed oomph.   E-ball, hellball, etc . . . add nice damage at the end with our red-name tests showing this to be about 50% of a barbarians DPS (which is very high for a caster).

Back to wizard already, it's a waste to have a near triple completionist on such a training-wheels class.
